67 Shelby GT350 Toploader markings I am in the process of restoring my toploader transmission for my 67 Shelby GT 350 and would like to recreate the original markings on it. Does anyone have any photos or information that could help me with the correct factory markings? Thank you, Dan dhardiman@prodigy.net
This is your lucky day. When I pulled the toploader out of my 67 GT350 I cleaned all the grease off of it and took pictures of the markings. I'll email them to you. Note that this is an HEH-BX transmission which is supposed to be for a 65 and not a 67. All I can tell you is that it has the 67 VIN stamped where it is supposed to. If you need more pictures email me at john_bednorz@earthlink.net and I'll take some more. The tranny is out of the car so it is not a problem.
Be aware that the markings from one trans might not be the same as originally on another - especially if the cars were built at different times of the year. Know at least two if them you should find are very likely not correct for the other car Hopefully, if your adding this sort of detail, the rest of the car is perfect concours example since no show requires any of the markings and only deducts points when they are incorrect for the car.
Mr Hardiman: What is your car number? Just so happens I sketched the ones out for my early 67 GT 350 before I thouroughly cleaned them all off. Yes, I have put them back on. But, as Jeff said (as he always says) better get them correct. If your car is a close number, I can help.
John, HEH-BX was supposed to be used in 66 not 65 but many 67's got them as well. I have a HEH-BX from a 67 Mustang HiPo in my Shelby in Sweden. Texas Swede
If you do decide to detail your tranny, make sure the ID tag is not painted cast iron with the rest of the case. Seems to be the one thing that often gets over looked.
