According to my Ford Shop Manual the valve lash should be 0.022 cold and 0.018 hot, my question:

Would the adjustment be the same with roller rocker arms as the factory rocker arms?

Also, it would be easier to adjust them cold than hot, any opinions which is better or does it really matter?

I have Crane Gold roller rocker arms with the poly locknuts and use the factory clearance specs. One huge plus I've noticed is that the clearances do not change over time & milage. I keep checking every 5,000 miles or so, but they don't change anymore. Kind of eerie.

I set them cold at 0.018 and they are the same (unchanged) when hot. ymmv.

I've had pretty much the same experience as Z. Ray. I'm using Scorpion rollers and the hot and cold readings are the same, checked it several times. That being said, I always check the adjustment when the engine is at least warm and so far they've always been dead on. Just warm the engine up, no reason to do it the factory recommended method with the engine running, that's just nuts IMO. Regardless, always set the lash to the factory recommended setting for the cam you are using.

Thanks for the replies, I plan on adjusting them tomorrow. The previous owner told me that they seem to stay in adjustment and he had not checked them for 10,000 miles, so it appears to be true.
