Hi trying to id correct toploader for my 67 gt500 my build sheet says c7fr-700?-a 4th digit in build sheet is smudged but could be a 3. so what should the sasting numbers be and what should the code tag read to be correct? I converted to small block 35 years ago and kept big block engine and trans but along the line someone stole trans and am now trying to find correct trans. Thanks for the help R.A.

Hi Larry my car was red /white now is black and gold was sold in north dakota most likely only one sold in nd. That would help me tremendously if you could get casting #s and codes. so was the inboard outboard choice based based on a states regulations about lights you think? my build sheet is on dso 84-2580 that says 40 red ones were produced. Thanks R.A.

    Hi, Welcome to the forum.
Just a quick look in the Tagbook by Kevin Marti shows the tag for a 67 is RUG-M M1 M2 It should be checked by David Kee (The toploader specialist)quite the listing on his website if you have a chance to check it out.
There are several types/combinations possible,so you are doing the correct thing by asking first.
Inboard lights are used on cars in this range, and we think it was not uncommon to see cars with either type.Do you know any other history like former owners?
    Regards P.D.

About a week ago there was an original 67 GT500
Toploader for sale on Ebay. It had the serialnumber including
the Q for 428 stamped into the housing. The car was
in the 7R02Q174XXX series if I don't recall wrong, ie. a
late January car at San Jose.
You could probably find it by searching on completed auctions.

I agree with Dominic. The tag on my gearbox was RUG-S1. The '67 G.T.500s were the first Mustang bodied car to get 31 spine axles and a big spline transmission.

Should be RUG S (or S1) with C5 main case and C6 tail. RUG S with C8 main would be for 68 500

Thanks for the good intel on transmissions so it should be a casting of c5 for case and c6 on tailshaft and a rug s code on tag and let me see if i got this right, trans is serial numbered to car on rug s tag ? If that is so is it the shelby number or ford vin number? R.A.

I found the last four digit of my Ford VIN on the the lower boss at the back of the case, just in front of the the main shaft extension housing.

    Hi,
After checking this out further,it appears that the listing in the Tag book is for a 390 (Mustang) not the 428 (Shelby) sorry if it caused any confusion.
Many cars have the Ford vin or a portion of it stamped in the small rectangle shaped boss on the lower front section of the main case. The metal tag on the right side is a different animal, and the RUG S should be a Large input/output type.Hope you find what you need.
    Regards P.D.
