I am pretty good at driving manuals, but I've never driven a performance car with a manual so I am a little concerned about getting in and out of the garage without applying too much power. How's it like getting the GT500 in and out of the garage? Thanks for the info.

ps. I plan on getting the 2011 GT500 sometime next year. Thanks!

    :)

First of all is this question a gag?

if the garage is level you should be able to get in or out without any pressure on the accelerator pedal. Just letting the clutch out very slowly should get you moving slowly enough.

No it's not a gag. The doors of my garage don't open to the walls, so I have to turn the wheels to both allow room for the other car, and to avoid hitting the wall coming in and going out.

Therefore I'm afraid that I'll launch too quickly before I can turn. I've only driven cars up to 400HP, I have never driven a supercharged 500+HP car so I have no idea how much launch I'm going to get while I'm trying to ease it in or out.

    I appreciate the help. Thanks.

This is a picture I found online which kind of looks like my garage. You see the door space is small, so after entering the door I have to turn toward the wall to allow the other car room to get in/out.

I have test driven a 2010 Camaro SS, and I know it is very hard to ease the clutch out (without accelerator) to move the car. I'm wondering whether you can use the clutch on the 2010/2011 GT500 without the accelerator to ease in/out. The size of the flywheel determines whether this is possible. For cars with a small flywheel, the car will stall if you ease out the clutch without applying the accelerator.

I've never driven the 2010/2011 Shelby so I don't know whether easing out the clutch without the accelerator will stall the car or not. I appreciate the help, thanks!!

I know the '08 GT-500 could be driven off w/o using the gas, forward or reverse. Hope you have the same experience with your new Shelby.

This is an easy one to answer.

    Give me the keys!

Or you could just build another garage in the back...

You seem to have gotten this backwards. You buy a big garage, then fit the house around it.

You might find it easier to get in and out if you back the car into the garage. Just a suggestion.

Just practice using the clutch; BEFORE you try to enter the garage. Use some cones, or something that won't damage the car if hit.

I deal with a situation much like yours. I must fit the gt500 and my wife fits her king ranch f-150 in our 2 car. I get it close to the wall like you're talking about and with the light clutch I have no problem at all. Practice findig the pressure point before you start parking it close to a wall. 400 or 500 HP does not matter when parking. You may only use 2HP to park.

one old trick is the old hanging tennis ball trick. After your park the exactly where it fits in the garage, mark a center line on the back wall to line up on as you enter. A tennis ball that on a string from the roof can be set to touch the windshield so you know when to stop before ending up in the livingroom.

Then again if you are too nervous to drive all that power into a confined space build a separate oversized garage for it and pad the walls.

If you have to ask that you probably shouldn't own one. :noway:

Probably not your entry level manual! If nothing else practice with a friend GT500. You will found out real quick how close of friends you are!

I will say that the clutch on my 2011 GT500 is MUCH lighter and easier than my 03. Ford has hit a home run with the pedal feel, and you'll have no issues parking a GT500 in your garage.

Well if you have an 2007 Shelby GT500 and can't get your dealer to TSB the clutch/flywheel problem?

Then I would say you're just screwed.

Go ahead and call insurance company on your home auto and tell them to prepare the claims paperwork before you attempt to pull in that garage.

    Regards.

There's one sure way to find out?..................................Give it WOT and see how fast you can make it to the back, or should I say through the back of the garage. :laf:

    Clutch/Flywheel problem isn't isolated to the 07, it's the 08 and 09! We'll see about the 10 and the 11!

WOW, that'll work great! Just as you put the tennis ball through the ceiling of the garage with the windshield cause your going to fast.:lmao::laf: Oh yea, the stock brakes suck for fast stops on a vehicle this heavy so don't rely on em much! Just take your foot off and cruise right thru the laundry room and wave at the wife as you go by!!!!

If your still scared then just shut it off, get out and push it in every night.:noway:

    Cheers
