67 GT 350 ...High beam lamp question

Stock: outside lamps are low beams. Only two lit when you turn on the head lights. All four lights come on with the high beams.

1) I've heard where on the Shelby's Fomoco used the Cougar headlight switch as Cougars were built with 4 head lamps, and the Mustangs only two.
This is if you have stock highbeam bulds in the center

2) In the long ago, I put in "Cibe (?)" french pencil high beams in the center head lamps as I used to gymick rally the car. Then I also switched to "aircraft landing lights". Yes, after about 30 seconds the headlight circuit breaker would start turning the lights off. Since you mentioned the under the dash switch, I suspect this is the case. To correct this, you need to wire in a relay so that the center high beams are fed off of the battery, through a relay.

If you just want stock center bulbs, do item #1

 

I think outerlights are low beam and high beam. They have 3 wires running to them. The inner or the high beams only have 2 wires.

As Roddster noted, the Cougar switch is the fix. It has a heavier circuit breaker. Worked for me.

 

If you buy a new one NAPA switches have a reputation for having a less sensitive circuit breaker.

 

I've heard that the shelby headlight switch is 15 amps. I've been told to go to a 18 amp switch like on a Torino or Galaxie. If nothing else, it would make your lights project at a consistent brightness, even at idle speeds.
