For the longest time I have been interested in getting a Camaro. Then I test-drove one, and I felt small inside. I didn't like that feeling, and I prefer feeling tight and airy. So I've switched interest to Mustangs. Admittedly I don't think they are as cool-looking as the Camaro, and they are as common as heck. Every 2nd sports car in N.America is a Mustang (according to an article). Nevertheless it is a handsome car, and maybe I don't want to be the center of attention? And I think the Shelby is a nice compromise as it isn't as common as the run-of-the-mill Mustang. So now I find myself here, and more and more I am drawn to the idea of owning a Shelby GT500. I think I will enjoy the drive more. I didn't like the lack of visibility in the Camaro as it made me feel slightly claustrophobic. No reviewer has ever driven a Mustang and complained that it felt too "big" or lacked visibility - things that bothered me in the Camaro test drive. Naturally I will test drive a Mustang as soon as possible to confirm whether I like the drive of the Mustang or not. Which brings me to my question: I want to have my car ready to drive first thing Spring 2011. How long (estimate) is the waiting time from order to delivery? Thanks a bunch! if no-one has a precise answer, all I'm looking for is an estimate. So if you can tell me what the waiting time for a 2010 is, I imagine the answer will be similar to the 2011. Thanks.
We have already had some built at the beginning of this month. We have already had 2011's built so you will not be able to order one next year. There is also a nasty rumor that the cobra may return and no more Shelby so you may want to hurry.
Re: New to Shelby - what's the waiting time for a 2011 order? what do you mean by that? Do you mean I have to order it before the end of the 2010? Are you saying that they only build a certain amount of 2011s and they are all completely built for the year already? What is your reason for suggesting this? Thanks.
Mine was ordered the second week in March and this week the dealer called and gave me a build date of 5/13 and delivery the week of 5/23. He gave me the vin number, so almost 90 days for mine.
It depends on Fords scheduling such as the number of coupes for a week/month vs verts and each dealers allocation. If your dealer does not have any allocated for that week/month it wont be scheduled until they do, however I would not worry to much during these bama times everyone that wants one should be able to get one.
I just ordered a 2011 GT500 convert - the dealer now has a build date of June 21st. Does anyone know how long it will take? Is the car built and completed at the factory or do they have to send it out somewhere for completion? Thanks,
go to the ford gt500 forum and ask cobra fred. he and two others have just received their 2011's. they can tell you when they ordered and such. it is slow.
The latest information from the dealer is next week June 22 for delivery. Cannot wait! It has been a 40 year itch waiting to be scratched. Previously owned a 1969 Shelby GT500 between 1970-1972 with a sick 428 Cobra Jet. I might add, the engine was wore out due to the original owner drag racing the hell out of the poor Shelby. In 1972, the motor was consumming a quart of oil every 200 miles and I could not find anyone trustworthy and skilled enough to rebuild the motor. Consequently wholesaled the Shelby and ordered a 1973 Trans Am with SD455. Waited 6 months for delivery and Pontiac was unsure about shipment during the 1973 model year. There was a production hold on the 455SD so I changed the order to the standard 455 with 220 HP. What a absolute let down. The Trans Am was awfully slow and pig in real terms. After all the years and alot of so called performance cars like the Stealth TNT, Trans Am WS-6, C-5 and M-3, just to name a few, I can finally experience a Shelby GT500 again and correct my error in 1972. Should of tried harder to find the right source to rebuild the engine.
