I need to take my heads off my engine this weekend and need to find out the easiest way to take the heads and exhaust manifolds out of the car. Can this be completed with the engine still housed in the engine bay or do I need to take the entire engine out of the car? I am having a heck of a time trying to get the exhaust manifold bolts out from the drivers side with that brake booster in the way. Can I simply take the motor mounts out and lift up the tranny? I see there is a good inch or so of play between the tranny and fire wall. I am guessing that I can't take the entire head out with the exhaust manifolds still connected right? Any suggestions from those that have completed this would be highly be appreciated regards, brian
Brian, Take the engine out of the car. It may seem big but in the end will take less time, be less frustrating and the job will come out better. I can pull a FE out of a Mustang (provided things are relatively rust free) in about 2 hours.
Ya, makes sense actually. I will pull the engine out this weekend then. I do appreciate the input regarding my question. brian-
