I have owned many mustangs an 89 LX 5.0 ( when they were 5.0's in the good old days) and a 91 LX 5.0, also a 2003 GT and I just bought an '09 Shelby GT 500 cobra in November '09. I am having a clutch issue as well. All of a sudden it is (i believe) slipping- and I need to take it in to Ford to see about replacement however, I am reading all of these horror stories. The problem is, I have performance parts on the car along with a performance tune. I will have to set my computer back to a factory tune before it goes into the shop so my warranty is not void- or does my warranty even cover this problem at all???
I know a good bit about cars- but I am no mechanic so my question is- are these clutches manually adjustable- or does it just need to go into the shop? I can't drive it like this. Usually if I drop it down into any gear there was like a fraction of a second delay and then the car would get it (at 551 HP) but now, to do the same it makes this sound like it's trying to get up a hill or something- then goes. Can someone give me some input....thanks!

Put it back to stock and take it in and ask about the TSB for the clutch flywheel issue.

Wylie- you were right! The TSB sensor is such an issue....Ford knows there is a problem and I see alot of frustrated people out there. They wind up changing out my clutch, flywheel, sensor, and slave cyclinder....all covered under warranty....

Glad it worked out for you. You have a good service manager to deal with. Others have to "do battle" with these service depts and what kills me about it is that work done on a TSB issue is paid for 100% by Ford. It does not cost the dealer a thin dime. Bet your car shifts better now.

I know about battle- everything is always a battle for me but this just happened to work out- one less stress in my life- the clutch however- can not be the same one they took out- it was so stiff and very hard to drive and now it's like a joke- it's so easy....i don't get it...and no tremble or shudder out of first gear- that was a real nuisance! I'm going to O'Reilly's today and have them look up the part number on my paperwork to see what they actually put back in the car...i'm just glad to get another year or so out of this one.......or the TSB i mean.....Ford does know its a problem......

yeah, they did put a clutch, a sleeve, slave cyclinder, flywheel, pilot bearings, and they re-programmed the PCM per the TSB and detected a chip or performance tune- oops!!!!! they said it wasn't necessarily a bad thing- thank goodness- they could've came back and said never mind we aren't doing the work for free.....
