Hi all. My names Jim and unfortunately, I don't own a Shelby (one of life's goals). But I do have a 1968 Mustang GT Fastback, restored in original Lime Gold. The car was at the 2009 Forge Musclecar show. I do have a little bit of history with a Shelby. Back in the early 90's, my best friends grandfather bought a Lime Gold 67 GT 500 from a guy in Toledo, Ohio. The car was in primer and had been sitting in a garage since the 70's. Unfortunately, I don't have the Shelby VIN and my friend doesn't have it either. I can tell you they restored it and sold it at the Kruse Auction in Indiana to a guy from the Springfield/Dayton, Ohio area. My friend let me drive the car up on the podium before the auction began and I just remember how sad I was to see the car go. I kept telling them not to sell the car, but they wouldn't listen. I do remember them thinking they made out like bandits, selling it for the princely sum of around $27,000. Makes you want to cry. Anyway, the real reason I'm posting is that I'm trying to find some info on a certain car. I have an original bill of sale on a 1970 Grabber Orange GT-500 Convertible. This is not the new bill of sale, but it was sold used at Beasley Ford in Delaware, Ohio on Oct. 13, 1970. All I have is the VIN for the car...0F03R482656. Was just wondering if anyone could provide any info on the whereabouts of the car. Thanks, Jim
Welcome Jim, I think I know the 67 GT500 from Toledo. One day in 1990 or 91 I was driving my 67 GT500 down Nebraska Ave. near Reynolds Road in Toledo and saw two older gentlemen pushing a Lime Gold 67 out of their back garage to the front garage. I stopped and helped them and we talked for an hour or so. The car was fairly solid but needed paint and clean up. I have to think this may be the car. How many Lime gold 67 GT500's could there be in Toledo? Sorry I don't know anything about the 70 GT500 though. I would love to see a picture of your 68 fastback, maybe I will run into you at a show this summer!
Jim, Give Vinny Liska a shout. He is SAAC's '69-'70 registrar. I'm sure he would be very interested in the information you have. 69-70registrar@saac.com69-70registrar@saac.com.
