1967 Shelby GT-500 Horn Button

    Hi again.. this time I would like to know if the center of horn button has the "Shelby Cobra" emblem or "Shelby Cobra GT-500 emblem?? Seems most early caars had the Shelby Cobra only emblem & the restored cars got the one that has the GT-500 added to the Shelby Cobra. Thanks again for the info.

    It should say GT 500 on the horn emblem. I believe yours car is a late one right?

    The original horn button has the model (G.T. 350 or G.T.500) on it. The one without the model was the replacement button.

    3624 EMBLEM – HORN BUTTON
    G.T.350 | Shelby Cobra - GT350 | S7MS 3624-A
    G.T.350 | Shelby Cobra - GT350 | S7MS 3624-B
    GT 350/500 | Cobra | S7MS 3624-C

    I don't know. I have car # 2960 (GT500) and have owned it since 1973. My horn button just has the snake on it...no GT500. I would say that it has never been replaced.

    I've seen the buttons with the GT500 on them and assumed that they were on the EARLIER cars...??

    Steve,

    My car is # 3040 and it has the G.T.500 and the horn button has the G.T.500 on it. I believe that the button with just the snake on it is the service replacement for both the G.T.350 and G.T.500 buttons. Jeff or Bob, any opinion on this one?

    my car #557 has the gt500...I believe ive seen the non gt500 ones in period advertising for the service replacement wheels....

    Interesting..., I should also mention that my horn button DOES have the "Shelby Cobra" on it but does NOT have the GT500.

    By now, any of our cars may have had the horn buttons changed. I do know that this button is the one that was on my car when I bought it 37 years ago in 1973. I've never messed with it.

    I've seen the horn buttons with the model on it (GT500, GT350) but it always seemed to be on the earlier cars...cars with inboards...

    I always just figured that as the production year went on, they tightened up on spending and cut back on some of the detail. Some of the later 67's came without functional rear scoops, no snake skin type vinyl seat covers...

    Roy, does your GT500 have functional rear scoops?

    Actually if by snake skin you are referring to the deluxe woven comfortweave type seatcovers you have it backwards.Some very early cars had the smoothe standard interior{maybe the first 200}..after that they all had the comfortweave.Youre right about the later cars having nonducted brake scoops though{my car #557 has the ducts}

    Also as far as a cost cutting measure i would think it would actually cost more to create the tooling for a new emblem......my 2 cents..

    Again, very interesting.

    557 - My car is # 2960 and I bought it 37 years ago in 1973. It is one of the later cars of the 67 production run. My car HAS the smooth seats and it always did. The car was only 6 years old when I bought it and it had no signes of any of that being changed. The same with the horn button.


    Roy - my back scoops were non functional also and I made the change too.

    The non GT500 or GT350 designated horn button was a service replacement so Ford parts did not have to inventory both IMHO. No service type horn buttons where installed on the cars from the factory. Bob

    The seat upholstery issue was a matter of a supply problem and not cost cutting . The cars destined to be Shelby's built from the beginning of May to the end of production at Ford San Jose would have a high probability of the non comfort weave seats. Bob
