I would like to find someone with a lot of knowledge on this car. A 68 GT500, 428 cobra jet, red with black interior, yes I said 8k miles and 1000% original too. This car is as it was the day it left the dealership right down to the tires, paint, factory issued cover, etc. It was bought by a couple for their son for his 16th birthday. He became ill and passed away a year later so it literally sat for the next 20 years, being started occasionaly until the husband/dad passed away. And now the last 20 years it has sat in a garage covered. I've been in the car and it has to be one of the, if not the only one like it on this planet. It has not been touched, which I know is hard to believe but it is the truth. So I am on here find someone with serious knowledge on it. Maybe one who even knows someone who is a serious buyer for it. This is not a "steal it" kind of deal but a chance at someone you only may get once. You can call me, email me or message me here. I will not give out any detailed info via email though regarding it's whereabouts or owners name until we've talked or even possible met. I can give plenty of references. My info is: Shane Davis 864-985-3439 finelinetrailers@gmail.com Seneca, SC
Re: 1-owner 1968 GT500, 8k original miles, car 100% original Hummm,... "GT500",.."428cobra jet",.."1000% original too". Something not 1000% about your findings or maybe its a GT500KR? I understand about not wanting to give out any info of its whereabouts or owner, but how about some pic's showing off the originality?
Re: 1-owner 1968 GT500, 8k original miles, car 100% original I am working on the pics as it is in an estate. I should have some more info tommorrow as I just got off the phone with my mother in law on it. It was 2007 last time I saw the car and it hasn't moved since. Also, I am not claiming to be an expert on it either, which is why I am on here. If my memory serves me, the air cleaner cover was blue. As far as authenticy, that won't be a problem on this one as this family was well to do and well known in this small town. Being I am in SC and the car is 600 miles away, I have to see who I can get to take some pics. I have to be out of state some this week on business and will work on details asap. I can appreciate your skepticism and doubt, but can assure you this one is the real deal. Shane
Re: Original Shelby GT500's - Who's got one? Hello Shane, Sounds interesting but there are a lot of variables. You call it a GT 500, is it a KR or not a KR? Is it a convertible? 4 speed or automatic? AC or not, color, all have huge effects on price. Also, I am a 67 guy but I can tell you that a really barely touched or never disassembled car is an amazing thing for anyone doing research for their restoration. I guess the question is as well. What does the owner want for it? Carl
Re: 1-owner 1968 GT500, 8k original miles, car 100% original I have talked to Shane and the car appears to be legit. I think his description is fine and I would reiterate what he said that he is not an expert on these cars and is why he is posting here. I have offered my assistance in getting the info out on the car and potentially helping with the sale. My interest is obviously for the sake of research and would also like to see the car not sent to the wrongs hands to prepare it for sale. Tim
Re: 1-owner 1968 GT500, 8k original miles, car 100% original There is a member on here who contacted me last night. Turns out he saw this car several years ago as a friend of his stumbled upon it accidentaly and at that time offered 6 digits for it. Not sure if he will see this and post but he seems like he knows these cars well as we've emailed back and forth several times. Bottom line, this car isn't going to be bought at a "steal of a price". It needs to go in the hands of an elite collector who knows the true value, which to me is nearly priceless for a car like this that is untouched and pristine 42 years later. I can put together about $100k to buy it but it isn't the investment I nened to make at this time with starting a new business this year and putting out a good bit of cash. I hope to have more specifics today. Thanks, Shane
Re: 1-owner 1968 GT500, 8k original miles, car 100% original I think working with Tim you should be able to establish a price for the car. Keeping in mind prices are depressed over the last two years. The problem with cars like this is inevitably they suffer from poor storage conditions. A six figure number maybe unrealistic if the car is a GT500 hardtop.
Re: 1-owner 1968 GT500, 8k original miles, car 100% original I sure would like to see 1000% originality! Actually, sounds like a great car...would love to see some photos if you get them. Randall
Re: 1-owner 1968 GT500, 8k original miles, car 100% original Okay, I just saw where I put 1000 instead of 100%. My mistake. But with that said, I will post pics as soon as I get some good ones. I am a reputable boat dealer and have started a new company manufacturing aluminum trailers and stainless steel dog boxes. I have plenty of references and before this I was a top Featherlite Trailer dealer. I have friends in Indy car, Nascar and Top Fuel at the highest level. I have absolutely zero reason to state this car is pristine if it wasn't, nor state it was 100% original when the fact is it is. I am just not going to throw out id numbers and location info until I am positive I am dealing with someone legit. You can be skeptical, or if you have deep enough pockets and are interested, all my info has been posted from email, phone and location. I'd bet this is one of the most rare 68 GT500's in this country and it's been sitting in a 50 year old garage in the middle of town for 20 years without being moved one foot and only started the 10 years prior to that. So info will come, as I get time to post it unless it becomes unavailable or a deal is made with a buyer to where no more details will be shared on the car. Thanks, Shane
Re: 1-owner 1968 GT500, 8k original miles, car 100% original Shane, I am sure there are some skeptics, but keep in mind it's for good reason. There have been people who have appeared here before with similar incredible stories. Most have lasted about as long as a wet paper bag. Personally, I believe you. I think you have hooked up with one of the most knowledgeable guys you could have hoped for. Hopefully, it works out for everyone. I also hope you are being realistic, because this probably isn't going to make anyone rich. Regardless of the stories you have heard. There are several well known low mileage cars like this around. So, from that perspective the car is probably not unique. It also has a very limited market. Best wishes
Re: 1-owner 1968 GT500, 8k original miles, car 100% original I have had a shelby stolen from me so I can understand keeping the location very private, and the distance factor is also a problem with the pics,,,,,but publishing a VIN number would not hurt a thing or anybody and it would let other people do some research on this vehicle while you are doing your necessary things.
Re: 1-owner 1968 GT500, 8k original miles, car 100% original Not trying to be facetious or skeptical, just want to know if its a GT500 or a GT500KR?,....and would still like to see some of the finer points of the cars originality?
Re: Sale pending Hello.I may be able to shed some light on this.If this car is in Indiana then I know all the details. It is a GT500KR red ,4spd,with 8000 miles. I have seen the car and it is missing the original tires, muffler and some other pieces. It has been ziebarted so there are black plugs all over.Still a nice car with zero rust on outside surfaces. The bottom looked like surface rust only. The garage looked like it was ready to fall down.Last I knew it was going to Jay Leno.
Re: Sale pending Pete, I'm sure you could make it perfect. The car needed all smog, dist. besides what I allready said.THE PRICE WAS $ 175K A YR. AGO WITH A BIG IF.She saw her son in that car. Why did I not try to buy the car? Because I allready have two KR's and wanted someone else to enjoy this car. The mother had alzheimers and wouldn't know you the next day you talk to her. She was a nice lady.
Re: Sale pending Hopefully someone did not get taken in the deal. Would love to see it. I definetly don't need another project, but I'm always ready for a good consultation. I'd even waive my fees for Mr Leno. Pay my expenses and I'm in Hollywood!!
Re: Sale pending I haven't spoken with this lady in over a year so I don't know if she is even alive. The Jay Leno story could be truth or gossip and the car may still be sitting where I saw it. This might not be the same car as Shane's, but the story sounds very similar. She thought she had the original tires, but they were G or H 70-15 PollyGlas. Car had not been started in ten years.Still a super KR. Thanks, Brad
Re: Sale pending Well Shane, any photos? Any more details? I think we could all benefit from seeing some photos. I sure would like to see. Randall
Come on Shane,we are all waiting for more details. You don't seem to be anserwing your phone either.Tell us all what the price is?I'll give a few more details about the car I am talking about. It has been in an unheated garage all these years so it has the typical rust in the 4 places on top of the engine compartment This is more than surface rust. Fenders will have to be removed for proper repair. It is also missing the steering wheel.I never had much time to examine underneath so who knows. I first read this thread a few days ago and this has been going on since June. I answered this the same day I read it. Oh ,by the way the car cover is not a ford original cover. Get your facts right before telling all of us.
