Should Washers Be Used With the Lug Nuts on 10 Spoke Rims?

In my case the 10 spokes, when I tighten them they touch the calipers a little, & I use flat washers for that reason, & it works out fine . When I put the original steel wheels on, there is no prop. at all. ---S.

 

There about 11-d-billion versions of the tenspoke wheel. Some used a washer and some did not. If you lug hole is tapered, you need a tapered lug to match it. Some non-tapered holes used a washer.

 

In my case, the flat washers go on the studs first, then the wheel goes on next. & tighten them down. I'm talking about putting washers inside the wheel where the lug nut goes. Sorry about the confusion ---S.

 

Mistake,--I'm NOT talking about putting washers into the lug nut holes in the wheels , only on the studs , before the wheel goes on the hub . Sorry bout that , i'ts old age.---S.

 

Assuming you have the correct stock lugs on your rotors, you probably have the wrong lug nuts. I dont think you want to put washers on the back side of the wheel, that could effect wheel balance or stability.

Just another reason to dislike ten spokes as far as I am concerned.

 

If there is a need to put washers on first or wheel is not fitting tight to rotor surface most likely the wheel is hitting the caliper. If you want to use them (I'm with Pete as far as using steel wheels for this reason) then you need to grind the calipers.

 

Its the outer upper edge. If you bolt wheel (loosely) and look from behind it will be obvious where. You could also use 1/8" wheel spacers but I am not a big fan of this. Whatever you do also make sure you have the correct lugs for the correct wheels.
Tapered seat= tapered lug nuts
Flat seat= Standard mag lug nut/washer
