Hey I was wondering, does anyone know about the keys to a '70 GT500. The keys for the trunk are the same as the glove box, this key won't work on doors or engine. Are the keys the same for the door as they are for the engine. I am in the process of restoration and I feel like i am getting ripped, off for a new engine key to be made at $250 when the key to the trunk was only $25 b/c it matches the key to the glove box. Does anyone have any advise on where to get the key made, how and if there is any kind of catalogue that can give the code to a key? Thanks for any advice, Max
Who is ripping you for 250 for a key? Take the ignition switch to any locksmith and they can make a key from that.
You could probably replace all the locks with new keys for that car, less that $150. The doors should match the igntion and the glove box should match the trunk.
Hi, thank you for the information.. is there a youtube video or a guide on how to remove the ignition? A local locksmith wanted $250 to make the key
A service call from a local locksmith and making a key for 250 is a rip. There is a ring around the key way that unscrews and the ignition will come out the back of the dash. I think there are notches on the ring, use a screwdriver to tap the ring loose.
If there's a little pinhole on the front of the ignition, you should be able to push a straightened-out paperclip in that to remove the cylinder out the front. If not, unscrew the trim ring and the whole switch comes out the back.
