So I don’t pollute the 65-70 forums with endless threads on my project I feel its best to consolidate, and make one master thread on my project. I’ll update frequently post pictures and let everyone know where I’m at, and of course, ask for advice and tips. The next few post will be to catch everyone up to speed,to the point we are at now, which is working on the breaks, and a frozen engine. Follow my progress, or lack thereof, and help me get this thing on the road!

This was my dad's 1970 shelby gt350 that he bought back in 1982. For most of my life (1988) it has sat, probably about 18 years. Its been in and out of the garage, so it has seen some rain, and there is some rust, but not too bad. Now I have taken on the task of getting it back on the road. Here are some pics for 6s524 and dc-dd of it in the garage right before i took it out to begin work.

Here are some pictures of when i first took it out. You can see a frame to a car tent around it so i don't have to worry about anymore rain damage, and i have much more space then in the garage.

    Brakes-
Then we get into the good stuff. Brakes need work lol. Thanks to the folks who helped me out on the other thread I have a better idea of where im at with this. Im waiting on the Brake master clyinder, since they ordered the wrong one, i will keep the original and try to refurbish it. And Im looking into replacing the breaklines. I found the other wheel cylinder, but am stilling missing the springs and other parts. These are somewhere in the shed that i plan on turning upside down this week.

    Engine-
Also from my other thread you might have read that I found the engine was frozen. After taking the radiator out, which was filled with antifreeze. And then the fan. And getting a breaker bar on the crank bolt, i found the engine frozen. The only thing i was doing was tighting the crank bolt. So to this point i have taken out the spark plugs, put oil in the cylinders, and am hanging tight. Back to the brakes for now...

Trent please share. This car will never be sold, which is probably why it just sat instead. My father loves this car to much, its a love hate relationship. As for the rust, cosmetically the car has almost no rust. But there is a lot. Of rust on the mechanical parts.

Thanks for posting the pics! Great project. At least it's all there. Be sure to keep anything you take off to replace. Hope that motor frees up for you. So what are your plans for it? Just get it running and enjoy it a bit? Or tear into it more and do a mechanical & cosmetic restoration? Or the full blown big $$ job? Ken.

Ken, my goal is get it running first. Need it to be some what reliable first. I'm a poor college kid, I will invest more money for cosmetic and replace parts for performance as I get more money.
Coralsnake, cruise control box? Just guessing have no clue.
And I am keeping everything that comes off the car.

i am sort of dealing with the same sort of brake issues as you are now...my car was in covered storage for about 20 years but very rarely driven(ca.smog/registration issues)as the motor was rebuilt shortly before it went into storage and i started it regularly(weekly with a few rare 6 month intervals)the motor runs great and is not an issue...the brakes are another thing entirely...i do have brakes but not much pedal pressure....unfortunately i havent even been able to properly bleed them yet as it appears some bonehead in the past stripped the front bleeders and they also appear frozen(i am afraid to break them and have NO brakes)also something appears to be leaking near the rear end(proportioning valve??}I have driven the car around my neighborhood(and it is still as terrifying a ride as i remember:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:}but i am scared to go any farther until i resolve this...youre lucky on the rust issue however because that is huge...after all most of the mechanical parts on your car are standard mustang/ford issue and can be fairly easily found/replaced(unless of course you want to go concourse) Good luck and have fun i am glad you got the car!!!!:):):)Trent

You may want to change the oil first. Use some that has zinc. (You'll want to research thatsubject as old cams and lifters dont like most modern oils) With the plugs out shoot some type of lubricant in the cylnders. If you can get the distrubuter out you can pre lube the engine by running the oil pump via drill motor. You buy a tool for this or if real low budget get some tubing that will fit tightly over the oil pump hex shaft and chuck up to it.

Try to break it free gently and then maybe let it set for a day or two and try again.

If you get it loose and running you'll want to change the oil alot over the coming weeks.

You also want to drain the gas tank. See how clean that stuff is. Lots of rust is bad news. No rust is great news. Once drained go ahead and change the rubber line going to it as it is rotten. Change the rubber fuel lines in the engine compartment. Keep a fire extingusher near by when you do try to fire this thing up.

You want to by a 1969 Ford shop manuel, ...worth its weight in gold..

    Good Luck

I'm sure more advice is on the way.

Good news, i was able to get it turned over last night. Took the valve covers off, and was recommended to use a petroleum based oil and keep turning it over, so will try that later tonight. Water pump is still frozen, I'll be replacing it. Getting the pressure checked in the radiator today. I’ll look into the gas tank. And they sent me the wrong Brake master cylinder again. And sometime this week I’m making a junkyard trip to find the miscellaneous brake parts I need. So no major work done yet, but I have gotten the engine to turn over by hand.

    Update!
Replaced the water pump, this was a little difficult with all the pulleys, especially putting them all back on. Thermostat replaced. New coil. Got the brakes all put together. Going to try to fire it up tonight after I change the oil and oil filter. Let everyone kno how it goes.

I put a screw driver right threw that sucker and it didn't even budge. Put a oil filter wrench on it and it wouldn't grip. Im going to try a chain wrench when i get home today.
