Many years ago (mid 90s) I bought a fiberglass GT350 hood from a guy that was restoring couple of '66 GT350s. He said the hood came off of one of the cars and the owner wanted to replace ti with newer version. He claimed it was an original hood, but I have never been sure and was hoping some of the experts could tell me if it it a repop or original.

Okay, Jay. I'll start the ball rolling. Here are some pictures of a known original hood. You'll noticed some differences in the metal frame between this and the one you posted. I'm also posting a closeup of the fiberglass matting on the under side in case that matters.

I can't say if your hood is original or not - just that it's different from mine. Like so many things on these cars, there could have been several versions of this component.

    Thanks Steve,
However, the one I have is all fiberglass including the frame so I would think it would be a little different from the steel/glass versions. Just not sure how much different it should be. The matting looks very similar, so we'll see what others say about the framework. Maybe the fact that the frame is also fiberglass is a clue to whether it is original?

The hood appears to be a repro. The factory all fiberglass hood dosn't have a innerstructure like that. The factory steel and fiberglass hood dosn't have a innerstructure like that. The fiberglass innerstructure on this particular hood apparently is made to mimic the steel one in this non original hood.If the hood was replaced with another repro hood the probable scenario was this reproduction hood was replaced for a reproduction hood that had a steel innerstructure that was more like the original . Those became available in the late 80's early 90's. Just a guess. I hope this helps. Bob

    Bob,
Thanks once again for your keen insight, you are always helpful. I suspected it was not original, but its good to know for sure. I guess this means I should not throw it on ebay as an original hood. :noway:
