i need to take one apart to re-do the wiring as one has come out. does anyone know how take the wheel apart to do this? thanks
The wheel does not come apart. You have to drill a new hole down through the epoxy media -run a new wire and solder it to the horn contact ring that is disconnected. Bob
Worked for me. Drill from the slip ring side toward the top. The hardest part was actually turning the drill on to make a hole in a rare steering wheel. Then just feed your new wire through the hole and solder it to the edge of the slip ring.
I found that my horns were not working and traced it to the steering wheel. Since I had a spare wheel, I decided to try to open this one. I took a block of wood (2" x 6" x 6" long) and used my router to cut a 1/2" deep area for the wheel to sit in. This was so I did not damage the face of the wheel. I then placed the block in my vise and placed the wheel (the top side where the horn button goes) face down. I then took a 16oz hammer and a brass (soft) punch and tapped the shaft. after a few hits, the top half and bottom half separated. I found that even though the wires were still attached, the solder was not completing the circuit. I ground the resin away and resolderd the wires. I cut grooves into the resin and used a high strength hot glue to put it back together. Send me your email and I can send you a picture of the wood block. Brian
