I am contemplating buying a trailer for my car to keep the milage down. But I've been told that a trailer is a costly pain in the rear, and not neccesary for a street legal car. So, (as a Newbie) I would like to know how many of you trailer your street legal Shelbys to events? I understand that if you own a race car, you have no choice, because it's not street legal. Please vote, and state your opinions too. Thanks!

Re: POLL: How Many "Trailer' there Shelbys? Yeah, go tell all that to those vintage racers who got busted up - on the track- up in Elkhart Lake WI last week.... IF, the show is farther than 100 mile round trip, I put mine on the trailer. It is an open trailer, still get all the thumbs up too. Pain? No, seems folks don't tailgate the trailer like they do the car. Only problem with the trailer is you'll have to have something to pull the car, and trailer with. I use my 04' Hemi Ram 1500.

For local stuff, I drive, but after umpteen in a row SAAC conventions with an open car hauler, getting rained on before, during and after, I decided to get an enclosed trailer. I use it for events over 100 miles away. On overnight stuff or trips, nothing better than the security of an enclosed trailer to lock up the car, tools, golf clubs, etc. Sometimes it's not a good thing to advertise having a Cobra or a 65-70 Shelby. I won't even put decals on the trailer like a lot of people do. Of course, if your other car is Yugo, you won't be able to pull any sort of trailer, so if it's a budget blower getting a truck/trailer, then driving is all you've got. I drove to my first SAAC from VA to CT, and had nothing but troubles on the way up, and a couple of issues on the track. I was dreading the drive home, but all went perfect. Last time I ever drove to an open track event, good point by Roddster on the Elkhart Lake deal. I haven't put a dime into the enclosed trailer, a very nice base Pace which was about $5k new, and shopping around for a storage yard, I found a locked, controlled entry paved place for $25/month, so it's not in the way at the house. Open car haulers are ok, it's ez on/off and strap down, but long trips in iffy weather, and having to spend the first few hours cleaning sucks. A bulkhead helps, but if your car leaks during rainstorms, it's a real drag. My $.02....
Re: POLL: How Many "Trailer' there Shelbys? I guess it is a matter of perference. I have done both. I sold my trailer a month ago and now drive my cars. The Elkhart Lake event had nothing to do with trailers. If you are going to Open Track your car, you need to be prepared for the unintended consequences that may occur i.e. "Break-down or Wreck. Trailering your car is certainly an option if you are going a long distance and perfer not to have to do a lot of cleaning and what not coming and going to events. It does not gurarentee you a trouble or accident free trip but certainly can help alleviate many of the woes and apprehension about driving your car. Keep in mind that trailering does bring a significant form of expense. Tow vehicle and trailer if not already in hand could run your cost up to $50-60,000 if it is a top of the line rig. Factor in gasoline, trailer storage, tires, accessories (Got to have them !!!) etc.. and suddenly you in to this thing for mucho dinero. Not many people make money on trailers especially when purchased new. Trailers are sort of like "Boats with Tires". If you can get into one cheap, Go for it !! For me the time camed to put my 40,000 mile baby on the road. I did the car show gig and frankly got tired of towing the "Trojan Horse" up and down the road. Drove it 100 miles yesterday and the Hi-Po motor was kicking some serious tunes. I don't worry about accidents anymore or else I would be afraid leave my driveway. I have done way more damage inside my own garage than I have done on the highway so I am over the "Fear Factor". I also have a Superformance 427 Cobra Replica. I am going to drive it from Dynamic Motorsports (Ross Ohio) to my house in Northern Virgina (525 miles) this week. Friend offered his trailer but I passed, couldn't bear the thought of putting a scratch on it . Doc
Re: POLL: How Many "Trailer' there Shelbys? As an alternative you could always drive it to the closer shows but rent a vehicle and trailer for longer distance ones. That would keep your out of cost amount down and you do not have to store the trailer, upkeep on it or buy a truck capable of pulling it.
Re: POLL: How Many "Trailer' there Shelbys? For the long distance showes I will tow for sure. I have a trailer and an SUV to pull it. We have gone on some long trips with the new Tbird and found driving was great but lack of room for lugage was a problem for week long trips. This also gives the other half something to drive to go shopping. The new Shelby should have a lot more space then the bird. I will drive it to the shows at first just so I can get some breck in miles on it.
Re: POLL: How Many "Trailer' there Shelbys? I only trailer mine if I'm taking it to the track. Breaking at the track is a real possibility so you need a trailer. For cruises and shows I always drive it. Nothing beets driving a Shelby through small towns and watching the peoples reactions. I've noticed more people think its a clone because it is driven. 15 years ago no one ever asked if it was real, but that is a common question today.
