Here is a picture of my 1965 GT350 in front of the restored silo at Meadowdale Raceway. They had a reunion car show last month. Meadowdale Raceway is located in Carpentersville,Illinois the tracked opened in 1958 and closed in 1969. Shelby raced his Cobras and GT350 at this track and the Transam car's to. They raced gocarts and in the straight away was a drag strip. The track had a steeply banked Monza wall and was 3.27 mile road course. The Kane County Forest Preserve District owns the Propety and parts of the track is still there.
I was there one day in 1967 0r 1968 when a friend in town asked me if I wanted to go watch/help his neighbor run his Formula Vee. We where both in the high school autoshop class. I don't remember how his neighbor's Vee did. It must have been some kind of SCCA weekend. There was a B production race with one 65 GT 350 starting at the back of the pack with ten to twelve Corvettes in front of it. By the 4th lap, the GT 350 was in the lead. As it went by up front the crowd was cheering it on. Alas, by the 7th or 8th lap, it was in the middle of the pack, sounding a little off, backfiring. It didn't win.... But, THAT GT 350 must have left an impression on me as I bought my 67 GT 350 six months after graduating high school. And I still own it today.
