Do you think the dealers will be adding a "lack of availibilty premium"? If they do, wonder how much it would be? $5000, $10,000??? This could end up being a $50,000.00 dollar car!!!! If they do, they will have to count me out! I have also heard of a "Gas Guzzler Tax" and a High delivery fee because they will be using enclosed trailers for delivery. Is there any truth to this??
Many have said that they will keep prices at the MSRP. I imagine it could be different from dealer to dealer.
I talked to a dealer today and from this dealer they said they will follow the "Market Price" Meening demand will set it. But I think definitly the gas guzzler will be on it.
I know it is up to the dealer but when things like this are going to happen I wish Ford would step in and put a stop to it. It looks bad on the company. Sure its a free market, and it is up to Ford to decide what dealers will get these cars. Make me pay a premium on this car and what do you think the odds are I will be back to buy my next Ford from the dealer?
I again talked to several dealerships through out my area. Most are saying fair market, but I've told everyone I talked to. That if they make this shelby soo pricey trying to make money they are going to piss off they're valued customers that have been buying for years. I agree though forD should set a max price and that should be final. One dealer i talked to today said the price could go as high as 60,000.00, which is just stupid. I don't think they'll care though. Everyone should start calling svt and complaining now so that the word gets out everyone is going to be paying attention to this price. 1-800-FORD-SVT.
I too wish Ford would put a limit on what a Dealer can sell the Shelby for. If they say market, what is market, they might as well put it on ebay. What about people who have there name on the list?
I would bet all the tea in China that many dealers will flood eBay with these new Shelbys. Just look are what they are doing with the Ford GT. After a period of time the fever will die down and MSRP may be achieved IMHO.
While I'm not surprised at the idea that dealers will raise the price and sell the GT500 for "market value" or whatever; if it ends up way over the MSRP, it seems that any and all cost saving measures they have taken would be completely out of line with the market. Basically, what I'm saying is that if people are willing to pay considerably more than MSRP, then they should have packed more product features/performance/etc. into the car and sold it for a higher price altogether. If the market is willing to pay $50,000, they should have engineered a $50,000 vehicle, rather than engineering a $40,000 vehicle and letting their dealers pocket an extra $10,000. Just a thought. I'm really not too worried though...I imagine prices will be high to begin with but will drop after a while.
I have talked with 5 different dealerships to date. 3 have said that they will sell them for what people are willing to pay. All said it was up to the GM at their dealership if they will add any mark up on the car. Just like the 05 Mustang GT that are in high demand and little availablity. Some of them are getting 3-4K over MSRP without any problems. The other 2 dealerships said ABSOLUTELY NOT !!! They will not add any extra price over MSRP on these cars, no matter what !!! I am sure ill use one of these two to buy mine. And in a couple of cases of the 5 dealers that i've talked with, they will not start an buyers list to put your name on, until they have order information from FORD. They did say that might change so I should keep checking back with them. That is all the info I have... Good LUCK
Heard up to $25k above MSRP at some dealers!! I've heard $5k over sticker for regular GT's and $10k over for the vert, so i guess $25k over for the Shelby isn't too suprising. I'm on a waiting list for the Shelby. Got MSRP as set price in writing. Only problem is i'm #4 on their list......i may not make the cut! Wish me luck fellas.
Good luck FiaCobra. I'm #2 on the list with a $500 refundable deposit. Dealer put in writing that price would not exceed MSRP. They are a current SVT dealer but I don't think they are a president's award dealer. Regardless, being #2 I should get a car. That is, if I can count on the dealer to keep their word. Good luck with yours.
I agree alot with what people are saying about paying over sticker by some crazy amount. It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out. I to am at the top of the list, but I am not going to pay a stupid price for this car. Hopefully it stays as nice as the one from NY cause I want this car bad but being a victim of blatent extorsion in the name of commercialism, I will not. I've expressed this with SVT, they said the dealers were told to be and I quote "MODEST WITH THEIR PRICING." Well we shall all see. I Look forward to the next few months, they should be interesting
I attended a Car Show at Smith & Wesson in Springfield, Massachusetts last weekend and talked with the owner of Sarrat Ford (local Ford Dealer in Agawam, Mass who had a tent there with some Mustangs and a GT40). I asked him if there was going to be a list for people to sign up for the new GT500. He told me that chances were good that there would be no list. He told me that Ford took a hit for doing that with the GT40. I asked about the pricing and he said that he wasn't sure.
