Should I trade in my 2008 Shelby GT Cov. with 4,100 miles for a GT500? Reasons I'm thinking about trading it?

    1. Strip issues

    2. Really careful about driving it because it's a limited edition. With the GT500 if it's damaged or totaled I can pickup another one.

    3. Not sure if the value of a SGT will be worth more than a GT500 in the many many years to come.

    4. Would really like to have the extra horse power to play with.

Chime in a let me know what you think.

    1) Supercharge the GT at Shelby for $12,000. It will outrun most of the "5's" when it is done. You'd be close to 475 RWHP while most of the "5's" are dynoing between 420-480 RWHP, depending on the year.

    2) Take a hit on the sale/trade, then take another hit on depreciation on the new car.

    3) Drive the SGT and enjoy it. Nothing lasts forever my friend. My bet is, unless you beat the hell out of it, in 10 years the car will recover most of its value. If you trash it, you can always find another SGT convertible somewhere that was babied its whole life!

    Shelby GT,

Here is my two cents worth,

    1. Some of the GT500's are having stripe issues also. (The Stripe issue is hit and miss, depending on car/care/driving and storage habits/ as well as potential manufacturer defect. It may be solved in the 2010-11's, time will tell)

    2. Many of us are really careful about driving our 5's and only bring them out for the occasional Sunday drive. (An 08 SGT with only 4,100 miles leads me to believe you would care for the GT500 just the same once you have your hands on it as they are just to special. However, some people do use them as a daily driver.)

    3. IMO, the SGT will be worth more than the GT500 just based on the numbers produced. (I'm not sure of the production numbers for your SGT but just based on the GT500 numbers I'd bet the SGT will be worth more 40 years from now. A couple questions to think about - 1) Will you have it then? 2) Did you buy it as an investment? I initially bought my GT500 thinking about long term value but what fun is that? The reality of my 08 having the value of the 1968 GT500's current value 40 years from now seems unlikely.)

    4. The extra HP is GREAT! (The 420-480 rwhp on the other hand, now that is fun! I had it out a few nights ago on a 50 degree evening and it's actually scary in the cool air! I read all the posts about more power but IMO power isn't the issue at all! The issue is getting the "stock" power you have to hold the road.:D)

Not much help am I? I guess it really comes down to what makes you happy as life is short and there is no promise of tomorrow! Either way your can't go wrong with the SGT or the GT500. I haven't owned a SGT but I will tell you that I will never give up my GT500! Best of luck in your decision.

    Re: Should I ????

I have a company car and a sport utility, the wife has a sport utility also, and the Shelby is mine. Also, I have a couple Harleys that also occupy my time. So, while not a daily driver, I get the Shelby out as much as possible.

If you need more power, do the Shelby American GT/SC kit at $12,000. That will be less than selling it, taking a loss, and buying something else.

    Good luck.
