    hello everyone,
i am new to this website and im interested in purchasing a 1968 gt500 project car.
i would appreciate any input regarding the various books/guides detailing part numbers, deciphering vin and buck tag codes.
it is my intent to educate myself as much as possible before i pursue this car.
recently, there was a project gt500 listed on ebay--so i know their still out there.
    thanks again

Your best bet is the 1997 Shelby American World Registry. Lots of other informative sources out there but this would be the first to get your hands on. You can buy one at Branda or they are regularly for sale on eBay.

Please let us know if you have any questions along the way.

First off, before purchasing be sure to get the Ford and Shelby VIN, take lots of detailed photos, check the history and verify the car as a real GT500 and not a false project Mustang. This is especially critical if you are new to the cars as there a lot of wanna be Shelbys being misrepresented.

Yes, I'm definitelynew to gt500's and I've already picked up on differnt font's on the ford engine bay tag. I assume their are people out their counterfeiting vin tag. When I locate a car that interests me, I'll plan on hiring someone to look over the car.

Several different tags were used during 1968 production, so its best to get some help.
