Hello, Just Registered,. I'm wondering if someone would be kind enough to tell me how I can tell if my small block ford engine is a real 65 or 66 Shelby GT350 engine ( engine only, no car. ). Are there any special makings. Everything seems to be right but nothing conclusive. thought I would ask the people in the know all help greatly appreciated.
Lyle, An engine out of a '65 or '66 G.T.350 will have the Ford VIN stamped on the block on the passenger's side just above the oil pan rail and just in back of the timing cover. You may have to scrape away some rust and grime with a wire brush. The number will start with 5R09K or 6R09K depending on year. Send the number into the '65/'66 SAAC registrar and he will confirm or not that it belongs to a G.T.350. If it does, he will not give you the Shelby VIN for that car just confirm that it came out of a Shelby. Hope this helps.
First of all thank you for you help. I found a raised area that reads SF18090 left front, other numbers at the back are C5AE 6015E, above that SE21. heads are 289 65 C50E A 20 3 4V
