My father bought a 67 mustang shelby 500 brand new off the showroom floor as it was told to me it was a special edition serial number 49 of 50 and I am trying to track it down to see if it is still up and running or what has happened to it? I do not know much other than he bought it in Littleton from Courtesy Ford brand new and later traded it in for a Ford Torino silly my mom tried to talk him out of it but hes hard headed LOL any ideas of how I may track it down? Let's start with the color, what was the color. "Special editions". All Shelbys were special, I don't recall any small sub-set other than the early cars with a little red light in the upper scoop, a few GT 350's with a Paxton supercharger, outboard headlight models, rare color like black, or yellow, the engineering cars, the drag cars. Car number (by the vin) 49 and 50 are both GT 350's

Funny, there is a posting link I got through the Spotlight Hobbies (model cars) about the underside of a 68 Shelby. Yep, shows a 68 GT 350 that was bought new at this same dealer in Colorado.
Actually you don't need the VIN. Contact the Shelby American Automobile Club. If dad had any warranty service the club probably knows his name and car VIN.
Come on now, in this day of identity theft, I cannot even check on my own bank account without DNA,DOB,MMN,security questions 1,2, & 3 and what ever else they ask you. You need a VIN number.
Does anyone have the breakdown by color for 67's. I have been told that red was not very common and at most shows I go to when I see another red 67 I always check the vin. More often that not it was originally lime gold.
I am not sure why you need a VIN? All previous owners names are listed in the Registry. Trust me I just checked and there is an owner index. I helped write the book. Contact SAAC.
I agree. Contacting SAAC is the way to go. Or wait for the new addition. The process of elimination (model, transmission, color, dealer) should narrow it down to just one or two.
Hi, The comments so far are really good,and with some luck you should be able to trace this car.The Shelby American Automobile Club or SAAC is the record keeper for cars from this era.The best thing to do is dig up all facts you can find on this car and send the club a letter....any pictures from when he owned it..the date it was sold or old paperwork of any kind would be helpful.The clue you have provided is even helpful,as it may be one of only 50 Shelby cars sold by that dealership.This would make more sense and if you do come across a serial number,or even a license number it will help speed up the process. The question about 67 color breakdown is also available from SAAC and Kevin Marti.The newest registry will be out soon and it would allow you to see this also.As for Red the total according to Kevin Marti is 171 cars.Most are G.T.500s and none were for sale until after January of 1967. Hi, Just looked up more info on red 67 Shelbys and found some figures... 47 G.T 350 4 speeds 31 " " " C4 automatics 78 total G.T 350 cars 93 G.T. 500 cars 171 total red cars plus the red prototype that is not Shelby numbered Lowest known # is Erics engineering car #0100. Hi, In reading Rod's comments, What is with the link? And Saac has many methods other than owner input to link a name with a car.Think about it,they have all the documents for warranty repairs,shipping and production order forms etc.from that alone you can find out how many cars a certain dealership sold in a given time frame...or the original owners name is on an invoice.I think the person that is trying to locate this car really means it was one of 50 sold by this dealer.If you think of it another way this was the third year for Shelby Mustang sales,and if they sold 15 each year that would equal 45 cars right?So many times a simple statement is misunderstood and soon it becomes legend,and only many years later we find out exactly what was said or meant.Let us hope he finds something.
