I am not willing to pay anything over MSRP. Would a dealer give me more than NADA wholesale for a trade in? No, and neither will I pay more than the actual value of the car.

I want to buy a new Shelby, but I would rather buy used than pay a premium over MSRP.

I agree with you DeLa1Rob. I will let the guys that must have the first one pay for that privilege. I believe they will be selling at or below MSRP before it is all over. Just look what is going on with the ford gt.

When the GT500 was first announced I was willing to pay over MSRP, but now, after seeing all the changes - not one cent over!

I have to be honest I might drop a little over MSRP, but I am not going to pay more than 1000.00. If it gets me an early one. Hopefully these don't have all the screw ups of the Ford GT though. They are truly very nice cars, it's interesting to see the different views. Thanks for hooking that poll up.

So if I can nail the price down to MSRP or close I'd be okay...which for me (I love a deal) is a tough thing to say..I may walk away as some others have indicated famlies being what they are. I can practise some restraint...allthough its easy enough to say that now, I'm not in a dealership being told I can have the car if I sign on the line with $XXXXX over list price tag. Here's to hoping I can practise the same restraint at the Dealer!

RShelby would you mind starting another poll on what consitutes an appropriate MSRP and what price point people would buy at. If you've done this already sorry for the duplicate question.

What is this nonsence, paying more than sticker for the car. If they want more for their car on the lot, than ORDER one from the dealer. that way they cannot charge one cent over sticker. ---S.

 

Maybe I'm just thick...what exactly do you mean..most of us are hoping to buy from a dealer..its the DEALERS who as a result of lack of supply and strong demand will likely raise the price higher for those consumers willing to pay to get a car first...which I believe is the gist of the thread what would people likely pay over list to get one of the first vehicles...if confronted with the option.

OK, back in the 60's, looking for a 250 pick-up. No ford dealer had any except one & He had it on his lot.& wanted more than sticker. Went into his office & ordered very same truck & same options from the same salesman. Had a grin on his face , it raised a red flag in my mind at the time. When truck came in about 6 weeks later, he tried telling me all about the increase in prices sence I ordered it etc.,etc. I told him flat out I had a signed purchase agreement by him & me & if I dont get the truck, I going to the state Att. Gen. office, which I did, 2 days later he called & said come down & pick up your truck. He said he would eat the price increase to keep a happy customer, Yere B.S.---S.

 

Im searching hard for a dealership to get on a list that is not already filled beyond what they expect to get. I was very very dissappointed in talking with the sales manager at the Dealership in Grand Prairie, Tx. He had taken a 5K deposit from a gentleman yesterday, and then proceeded to tell me that they plan on getting several GT500's and will be adding a dealers mark up. And he said that they are expecting to get 10 to 15,000 over MSRP for them.

So I drove to another dealership 5 miles away, and they didnt have a list going, wouldnt start one, and wouldnt take a deposit. The sale manager said FORD directly told them not to take deposits, but he did expect when the car comes out that they will be selling them OVER MSRP, but couldnt guesstimate how much. JUST FYI.

If anyone on here in the North TX or OK area, know if a dealership that have said they wont sell over MSRP on the GT 500, and might have list going that is not FULL

I believe you’re correct on this one. When I put a deposit down in 1987 on my “Ordered” Mustang GT with the options I wanted, they gave me the Retail price & VIN. Number so I could go to the bank for financing.

When I went to pick up mine, the salesman told me when it came in on the truck they had several customers on the lot already looking at it as it rolled off the truck & they were willing to pay more for it.

I said too bad; they should have ordered one like me. I mentioned to him that it was a good thing I got locked in on a price & have it in writing from him, because I’m not paying a cent more than you said you would sell it to me for when you took my deposit money. He wasn’t happy & just filled out the paperwork.

Moral of the story is ….. That’s why you get in line, Order it with the options you want & don’t wait for one to show up on the Dealer’s lot with the dealer mark up. That’s Reserved for those who just walk up off the street, see it, want it & try to buy it, but get the next biggest story of how the dealer can’t get anymore of them & that’s why it’s marked up 1,2,5 or10k only to see another 1,2 or 3 show up a month later on the lot with a different story. Don't let them rob you.

 

I`m lucky to have gone to the SVT dealer the day after they showed them at the NY auto show. I am first on his list at MSRP. The owner of the dealership remembers me from when I was tring to get an 02 Tbird. This above MSRP thing does not seem to happen here in Canada. My hope is to see this car no latter then the end of summer. The tbirds came out at the end of October/ first of November, we can have snow by then.

 

I wouldn't be so sure about that I am #2 on a list here in Ontario as well and was advised the MSRP was just that. And that the car would come out at over 5K-6K MSRP. I was also advised Canada will get cars last, and will not see them until September October of next year after us based SVT allocation.

So I guess if people buy em we may be putting them away awfully fast almost doesn't seem worth it...I may wait till the following year for 2008 model at least then I may be able to get it in early spring and then make more money on the interest I would have lost.

My dealer has not charge over MSRP on any thing he has sold in the past. We will get delivery after US for sure. If it is late in the season I will rethink the purchase. By spring if they are any thing like the Tbirds they will be dropping the price by then. By a year from now we should know if they will build the Shelby as a rag top. This also could change my mine.

 

I'm not willing to pay over MSRP. All indications are they plan to make enough units that the feeding frenzy should subside. It sounds like some dealers are finally catching on to the desirability of the GT500 and are trying to gouge. My local SVT saleman said his dealership never asks for a 'market demand' increase. I'm first on their list & will not need any deposit until I place the order. I guess I'm lucky to have an ethical dealer.

Same here, MSRP & no deposit till order is place. These are the dealers that should get extra cars to sell.

 

I'm new around this site but in mid 70's I was buying 67 fastbacks and GTA's for 700 or 800 all day long. Now look what these car are selling for now. If a person wants a car and has the means to pay for it go ahead, thats what has driven the price up all these years. I just hope the 07 Shlby is more than the horse power
