So I pulled the drivers side rear wheel off to get a good look at the caliper. It's supposed to be a 2 piston but it looked like a single.. Well it's a single but that's not what the spec's say.. So I called svt team and after they verified that it should have 2 piston calipers I was told it was a build error and to take it to the dealer.. So while I was at the ford dealer today getting service on my F250 I took a look at the (2) gt-500's in the show room and both had single rear calipers..Seems kind of odd that they have that many of them with build errors.. Anyone else have this going on?

    @ Jeff269,
I'm assuming that you do have the SVT PP package included correct?
(Suspension, 3.73 rear end gears, tires etc)

I found the spec for the SVT Package on the 2011 Mustang here:
    http://svtusa.com/2011-ford-shelby-svt-gt-500-specifications/

You're correct. It's supposed to have:
Front: Brembo 14-inch diameter vented discs, four-piston aluminum calipers
Rear: 11.8-inch diameter vented discs, TWO-PISTON CALIPERS

If that is the case, I need to take a look at mine too, because I just bought mine in December.

Hi Jester, yes I do have the svt pp, but when I was looking at the 2011 mustang brochure it shows the brakes as standard equipment..so I'm curious how many gt-500's are out there with the wrong rear brakes.. I thought maybe it was just my car but when both the cars at the dealer had the wrong ones also that really made me wonder what else is wrong on my car..

This website is not an official Ford website. Where that information come from?
I ask because I have the same problem. I have a 2011 Shelby with single piston caliper on the rear. Does someone download the Shelby brochure from the ford website?

Finish the story - Did you take the car to the dealer? Do they change the rear calipers? What happen?

So as of today ford is giving me the run around even after I had confirmed the caliper on my car has the wrong part #. They say that the 2 piston calipers means 1 on each side..ok then my front caliper spec's should read 8 piston calipers because each caliper on the front has 4! So I kept digging and the specs I found on http://media.ford.com/images/10031/2011_GT500_Specs.pdf under safety say dual piston calipers...ok so lets see them explain that one. I get the feeling they want this swept under the rug.

Jeff269, when the dealer told you about the pistons being one one each side, they were right. my 2010 in front come stock with brembo 4 piston calipers. when i pull off the front tire and look at the calipers, i only see 2 circle things that indicate the piston housing. it being a 4 piston i only see 2 meaning the other 2 are on the other side of the caliper. so when you have a 2 piston on your rears, means you have 1 piston on the outside of the rotor and the other on the inside rotor. hope this makes sense.

also on the picture of the brochure you posted up, it said that you only have the 3.55:1 gear ratio. if you have the svtpp like you say you do, you should have the 3.73:1 gear ratio. that brochure might just be what come stock on the 2011 gt5's.

Hi buddah, yep the pic i posted was to show the base spec's which show 2 piston calipers in the rear and 4 piston in the front.. the front calipers on my car have 4 piston each.. I also have the svt pp but that is not part of the brakes...So what ford is calling a 2 piston caliper setup is a single piston slide caliper system. My rear brakes have a single piston on the inside with a sliding bracket pulling the other pad into the rotor..the ford guy was telling me that a 1 piston caliper on each wheel = 2 piston calipers in the rear and i said sounds like. Lot of bull to me

Jeff269, well if ford says what u said about the single piston slide, then i might have the wrong calipers too. Sounds like something we all need to clear up with ford/shelby.

Might need to talk to a mechanic about this instead of a salesman.

I went to the dealer today and and they verified the build sheet of the car but there's no specification on how many pistons have the rear calipers. They notice that that the brochure reads two piston calipers so they do not know what to do due to there is no part number to substitute the brakes. They will try to find more information and call me back.

Thanks for the picture. I'm guessing that those are not necessarily mustang calipers right?

Do you have any response from your dealer regarding what they going to do?

I 'm waiting from my dealer to call Ford to see how they going to solve me this issue. I was so busy this week that forgot to follow up on this issue.
