Greetings all, from North Alabama. Well, as I have been casually watching the market over the last several years looking to buy what I THOUGHT would be a 88-93 GT or LX V-8 convertible (manual transmission, of course), I have become 'stricken' by the 07-11 Shelby GT500 convertible bug (especially the 11). I trust that I have joined the forum that is going to help me overcome and DEFEAT this ailment. Right? Right?!? My history is that I have owned two 88 Mustang GTs (the first one got totaled by a drunk driver within two months. No, I wasn't the drunk driver). Immediately after recovering from a broken leg and hip from that accident, I went and picked up the second GT (absolutely identical to the first GT). Ever since selling it in 1996 due to moving and getting married, I have missed it. Since then, I have owned a 2004 Corvette Commerative Convertible. I sold it because I hardly ever drove it, got divorced, plus I had two motorcycles that were taking most of my leisure driving time. So why am I looking at the Shelby, given that I still have the two motorcycles? Because, I have been STRICKEN! The more I look, the more I really like these cars. Yeah, that's it. I'm looking forward to learning about your rides and all about these cars. Well be chattin'!
Look at craigslist in your area and surrounds. Right now there is a fairly good deal on an 11 but it is in San Antonio, Texas. How far will you travel to get a GT500?
Thanks, Wylie. I would be willing to travel as far west as Denver, probably. BTW, I used to live in DFW. Bought my first two GTs @Lingard Ford in Hurst, TX. I saw an 11 on CL San Antonio, but didn't see a convertible. A convertible is requirement for me. Cheers!
I would consider 2008 - 2011. I actually have my eye on one in CL in Dallas. Beautiful Black w/Red Stripes. I need to find out more about the differences before I would be willing to pull the trigger on an older one. Seems like they keep making improvements that really help the handling of the car. That's a big part of why I have started spending more time on this forum - trying to determine what is the best overall buy Thanks again!
