While most everyone else was watching the super bowl this last weekend, I went to Las Vegas and went to the Shelby plant there to see my new gt500 being worked into a super snake. You havent lived untill you walk into a large building that has 50-60 super snakes in it. I was in total shock to see so many gt500's , most were done and some like mine were in process. The guy's there were as friendly as any one could have been, showing me the different builds and even starting them up so we could here the difference, which buy the way is a great selling tool . Once you see and hear the cars you just can't stop smiling. I can honestly say that after hearing a 900hp super snake run, my heart was set on that one. Hearing the way the engine just idles is enough to tell anyone with a pulse that this thing means business, the different cams & headers sing a different song. I know you can't possibly use that much horse power, but I have always been the type to "go ugly early" so to speak, and I am only going to do this once so I got to get it right the first time. If any of you out there ever get the chance to go to Shelby's plant in Vegas, DO IT , you will not regret the expierence. It could be the most expensive "look see" you have ever taken and the most rewarding also.
Yeah the place is cool. I went there during Christmas 2008 and saw the KR's being converted. Also ate at the Shelby Cafe which is closed now.
Sounds like a good visit. It is a cool facility. When is your GT500 Super Snake expected to be completed?
They said that it should be done at the end of March. The wait is agonizing but in the end it is going to be worth it. We plan to drive it around down in the lower 48 for a little while and then ship it up here to Alaska, where we live.
I have a 2010 convertible and love the power stock, but would be receptive to this upgrade. Is there a factory warranty on your SS package? Cost approximately? Are they back-logged since end of March is soooooo far away. Finally what do you do with it in Alaska for 6 mos of the year. I'm in Pa and will not install winter tires; thus I rarely drive it from Dec-March.
Shelby will make any up grade you request on any vehicle, they have a new program where they can up grade any vehicle as most of them are computerized and the work is much the same on any vehicle. The up grade to 900hp on a gt500 will set you back about 55k-65k, depending on which options you request. There is no warranty on any of the upgrades after the 750hp range and also I don't think Shelby will take a convertible above 700 hp as structure of the car is weakened by the convertible option. The average build time with Shelby seems to be 90-120 days. I keep my custom cars in a large heated wearhouse most of the time as our weather here in Kodiak is not very good for these kind of cars. That makes every ride we do get to take a good one and the rest of the time we just dream of cruzing around. we only have 50 miles of road here so we don't go far.
