Update on my Shelby Dakota project. Engine is done, suspension is done, still need to pull the trans valve body to replace some seals and then do the paint work but I'm getting closer.
Where in the hell and what brand and model number are those headers for your Shelby!!!!!!!!! I've been going nuts trying to find a set. Please reply!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Randy

Got the number, thank you! Are your heads original? Is there a differance in the exhaust port shape of the magnum and our 318 Shelby motor? What are your engine mods? Did you have the computer re-programed?
Its the stocker, looking at doing a "upgrade" this winter to a 360 crate, can't seem to find any info on how to make it work tho....the PCM is a big problem on that sway.

You can have you computer REFLASHED for mods like cam, larger throttle body, etc. Check out HUGHES Engines Inc. www.hughesengines.com or call at 1-309-745-9558 Their gonna grinde me a beefier cam, modify my throttle body and re-flash my computer. Of coarse, it would be easier to slap in a create motor, and run 1 vaccum line the the carb. But what do you think CAROLL SHELBY would say about that! Good luck, and keep me posted!!!!!! Randy
Who did you speak to at Hughes?? I don't see anything there on trucks as old as ours....I would perfer to do this, rebuild the bottom end with a 30 over bore, and a fatter cam, not much but some, but I would like to change heads, I'm sure that these heads just pure suck for HP, I would love to keep it fuel injected if theres a way to do it and make it work right, I want this truck to run better, at least to the standards of a RT Dakota. 175 HP just aint getting it done, I'm not after a drag truck, but I want to pull up to a light and have people know that it has more then bad ass looks
Good morning! I just spoke to Dave Hughes @ Hughes engines, and sadly to say, they can't do a darn thing with that computer. Sorry to misslead you. But he said that he can modify our throttle body and suggested a 9204 cam that would be ECU friendly. Also modify the plenum and port match the intake. With a stage one head rebuild, porting of the heads, and all these mods, along with headers, 300hp is a realistic goal. Thats what I'm shootin' fur anyways! Heres a question fur ya! Are you NOT running the egr air smog pump? If so, did you notice any differance in how it runs or idels? I prefer to take mine off!!
It runs no different at all. 300 HP would be killer to me, whats the head deal your talkin about? Is that a different head completly? All that and on the stock computor?
Would a Magnum 5.2 work in our trucks from a same body style dakota? Have you concidered a bad ass carburated 5.2 engine??
Mornin' HILLBILLY! Order the HUGHES ENGINES cataloge, and all this will be explained 2 u. The STAGE 1 porting I'm talking about is with the stock heads. The ONLY reason I'm using the stock longblock, but modifying the crap out of it is to retain the originality and value of the truck, "SHELBY BABY"! By the way, HUGHES ENGINES specializes in MOPAR MADNESS!!!! Their the real deal!!! Thanks for getting back to me on the smog pump, I'll cram that puppy in a box along with those lathargic cast iron exhaust manifolds! Also, please save ALL stock parts that you take off for resale value.
Ordered me one today, spoke to some guy there, things are looking up to given the Shelby a kick in the butt!
Dance the night away HILLBILLY!!!! ha ha ha ha ha!!! Now for the next step, I'm going to contact MSD ignitions to see what kind of distributer setup they recomend. "Gotta light that fuel" On top of that, I'll check into the fuel pressure, we may need to bump it up a few pounds with a bigger pump and regulator. The perfect "tire smoking" package takes time and research, sounds like we're both fixin' to have some SERIOUS SHELBYS!!!
