Has anyone bought a replacment set of correct bullet type hood pins from one of the suppliers?

If so how accurate are they and where did you get them from?

I know that NPD sells them but it's hard to make out what they are like by looking at pics on the online catalogue.

I bought the "concours" type hood pin kit from either Branda or NPD about a year ago. The plate measured the same thickness as my originals. It looks good to me, but I'm sure it's not exact. Ken.

Ken, thanks for the reply would you have another picture of that shaft that the pin goes through because on the picture you posted it looks like there's a stepped shping to the top of it.

Maybe a cross section pic would show it better.

    Thanks

    Ross

There's no step, that's just the reflection. It's shaped like the end of a football.

Watch out for a larger hole in the plate of the repop pins. The gennies where a little tighter.

I bought a set of repops from Max (of AMK) at SAAC-17 in 1992. At the time I think they were the closest thing to OE. They are very nice, the only thing I noticed is the posts were slightly thicker than originals. Don't remember the measurement but my originals are dead on 0.500" diameter. Don't know if AMK still makes these or not.

I also bought the reproduction ones, I have not installed them as of yet mainly because the ones on the car are okay. The main reason I bought them was to get the lanyards but I do not know where to fasten them under the hood, is there a picture that someone could post showing where and how there are fastened?

Here's a picture of an original hood pin stud next to a new repo. Both measure .500 diameter, and the hole in the plate is .56, or 9/16". Hoods pins from left to right: 1) Japan cast in pin who knows where I got it, 2) Maybe original...I don't know, 3) Repo.

Tex, lanyards were not factory for 1966 GT350's. You have a fabulous looking clone, and I think adding lanyards would detract from the original appearance you have going. Of course it's your car and your choice.

Thanks, it appears that the lanyard is attached to the grill, is that correct?

Thanks for the nice compliment, I did not know that they did not come on the 1966 model, a friend had one he bought new in 1966 and when I saw it the first time it had the lanyards so I assumed that it came with it, I guess in reality he added them right after he bought it.

It was pretty common in the day to add lanyards to 66's, especially after people saw them on 67's, to keep the click pins from being lost or stolen.

My friend actual put little Master Locks on his instead of the pins to keep parts from disappearing (I suppose) since he drove it everyday and parked it outside.

My car also had those little locks when I bought it in 1979. I guess that was another common thing to do back then.

Yes, it's a handy spot, using the screw that's already there.

Just to clarify-There might be lanyards on various cars now and they are a handy edition but they are most likly owner installed . There are no lanyards on a street 65 or 66 GT350 from the factory. GT350 R cars used the 67 style lanyards. Bob
