Re: GET YOUR NAME IN NOW! I would suspect that many dealers looking to make a killing on these cars will post them on eBay. The same thing happened with the Ford GT. Eventually the fever pitch will die down and prices will normalize - you just might have to wait a few months extra. The only bad thing is not being able to order the car the way you want i.e. color and options.
Re: GET YOUR NAME IN NOW! About putting my name in for a new Shelby, most all dealers I've talked to have no clue about how or when to do this much less the potential options, ordering specs ect. If anyone out there has more info on this topic and how to get on the list, i.e, directly to FOMOCO, I surelly would be appreciative, as would a lot of others like me.
Re: GET YOUR NAME IN NOW! I to ran into a dealer that had not started a list yet and lucky enough, he started it with me. You have to talk with the new car sales manager or the general sales manager of the dealership. They may or may not start them, I told him how many dealers allready had a list and he was quite surprised. As far as when you'll be able to pick options and all that, they don't have that information but when they do if your on that list and have a reasonable placement on the list you should be contacted. But it could vary and will from dealership to dealership. Some dealers want money and some don't. It just depends on how bad you want this new Shelby. It doesn't hurt you putting your name on the list, because you can pull yourself off and get your money back at any time, if you have put any down. Just in case this Shelby turns out like the flop of the GEN 1 pontiac GTO's . Right now you can only hurt your chances of getting one by not putting your name down. Of course thats just my opinion. Or you can wait them out and hope to grab one after the buzz is gone, if that happens. IT's all on how bad you want it. I have the FEVER so, I'm doing all I can and will figure all the options stuff out when they say Mr. #####, this our allocation come pick what you want.
Re: GET YOUR NAME IN NOW! I think I might wait a year and save a ton by buying one with a few miles on it. I have yet to see a limited production Mustang do anything but drop initially in value. Cobra R's, Bullitt's, Mach 1's, all of them have depreciated from the moment they have left the showroom. After 5-10 years, they'll start going back up again. I imagine the Shelby's will be the same way, especially since they are making a lot of them (compared to the Cobra R's and Bullitt's). And buyers beware: you guys who are going to pay way more than sticker for these Shelby's, just so you can have one of the first ones, should take a lesson from the guys who did the same thing on the first '92 Vipers and the more recent Ford GT's. IMHO.

I just got off the phone with a local dealer sales mgr. The gentleman said dealerships are being allcoated GT 500's according to past Mustang sales and a few other sales factors. This is a fairly large dealerdhip and was only allowed 3 of the 500's. All have been sold thus far. He gladly put me on the waiting list, knowing that the potential for a sale exist. He also said that Ford SVT was only building a max. of 5000 unites of the 500. This my friends is going to be a very interesting rush for the line. Prices are currently going for about $10,000.00 over sticker. So figureon spending anywhere from $49 to $60,000.00 for this car. Ya have to love free enterprise !!!!!!!!!!
Your absolutely correct. The first few cars will sell for that. But 5,000 units is a LOT of cars, and I can assure you that if they truly make that many, there will be plenty of Shelby GT-500's sitting on dealership showrooms in the November of '07 that will be able to be purchased for the sticker price if not less. God bless you if you have the extra $10-20 grand to spend just to be the first guy on the block to get one. I think I'll wait and pick one up at a substantial savings, and after all the initial recalls have been done...
I think that I'll put the $ for the car in my savings account and let it build intrest until as you say the cost drop to a reasonable size. Course the cost really isn't that bad for a car of this caliber, IF it lives up to it's name. If anyone has an inside track or connections with those that are " In the know" with FORD, a little help on the information line of these cars would be appreciated by all of us. Drive safe.
As I already have a '68 it would be cool to have the 2008 also Maybe I will wait and see BUT 10K over list I dont think so...I know the biggest Ford dealer in the country and they are only going to get $1,000 over list so why give your money away!
I spoke with SVT yesterday and the news isn't as good as we hoped. The third light will be located on the deck BELOW the spoiler, the SHELBY logo letters will not be as seen on the red prototype, but smaller and located somewhere else on the rear of the car. The hood scoops are as seen and the number of unites planned for production is between 7 and 13 thousand. Now, that was Mike's of SVT wording on all this for the FINAL plans on the production model. Cost of retooling for the 3rd light brought it to the rear deck rather than the spoiler, thus attempting to keep the cost down. I called simply because I see so much speculation here in the forum and other sites, no one really had the answers. Now I have to see IF what I was told is the truth. SVT said that their site, www.svt.ford.com , will hold all the answers. I didn't see those answers there. I still would like to get my hands on a 67 or 68 GT 500, any body have one for a reasonable cost!! Call SVT and let them tell you what's up 1 - 800 - 367 - 3788 Good Luck to all.

Did they mention when they might have things finalized or where we can go to give more input in person or by phone? I went to their website & they are still showing & saying the same things from the New York Auto show. I am really wondering why some of you are able to get deposits put down while the dealers I talk to won't even take an offered deposit? Do I smell Price Gouging here or what?
SVT was a little stand offish. I felt lucky to get the info I did. Gut feeling is that if we see the yellow Mustang shown in another thread in this site pretaining to the rearend design, I think that will be the production look, based only on what I was told. Give them a call and make a list of your questions prior. Once ya have that, post it for our info. Price gouging? You bet. FOMOCO dealers seeing the golden egg? No doubt Good Luck and God Bless
I'm hoping not to get gouged. My dealer put in writing that price wouldn't exceed sticker when they took my deposit. They seem like they'll carry through. Word is they stopped taking deposits after 3 because they didn't want to take deposits on more cars than they might be able to get. I'm supposed to get the second car they order and they say they will order it to my specifications. I'm just hoping it all works out.
Good luck, the dealers around here haven't a clue of what to do. I was told that I was on one of the dealers I spoke with list, just where is not known, no deposit though. Guess most of us will have to wait to see what the reality of the situation is when the car arrives from production.
