I have the same issue. My old man has a 68 GT500KR and the sound just at idle is intimidating. I'm not looking for crazy loud, I'm just looking for something for my 08 GT500 to make it sound similiar if it's even possible. Less modern, more retro. He added some glasspacks when he bought it 15 years ago, but that's it. Any ideas on how I might accomplish this?

Yeah I started there, it's just tough to tell how they will REALLY sound. I've been looking at the Magna Flow MF16674. Does anyone have these? Pretty standard install?

I myself went with the SLPs. Had them on my 2000 GT and liked the sound.
I viewed many of the sound clips, but you still never are quite sure. I knew
their quality was good so I went with them again. Very easy install and
fit perfectly. I love the sound. Not too loud at idle, but I have gotten
many comments from others on the sound. But even so I like the sound
myself too. I know many claim they are too loud, but I don't believe this
is true. Too loud was my 1973 Pantera with headers and very short
tubes called "mufflers". Hah. They were scary loud. But seemed to fit
    the car.

Ok that opens up another option. Do you have much/any drone with the SLPs? I was worried that the SLPs would be too loud. I like driving my car to work when it's nice out and I have underground parking. Making all the Partners go deaf in the garage probably wouldn't be my best carreer decision. What do you think of the Flowmaster American Thunder Axleback kit? I'm wondering if I should start with a smaller change and go from there.

Off topic, but I'm looking at the Steeda CAI as well. Anyone see why that would be a poor decision?

haha That exhaust sounds perfect for a 73 Pantera. I bet it has a nice growl to it!

That's a great idea. I'll have to check if there is anything happening in MN soon. Thanks for all the help guys.

No drone on these. On my previous Mustang there was a bit after I swapped out my OEM h-pipe for the catted x from SLP. Even then not bad. But on this car there is no drone. It's a nice sounding exhaust. Yeah, the Pantera
exhaust was just mean, but sounded awesome too. When I start my car in the morning in the garage it seems a bit loud, so in an enclosed garage it might be a bit loud. But I had expected it to be even louder. No one has
    complained.

Thanks for all the help guys. I decided to go with the Flowmasters, Steeda CAI, and the SCT/X3 tuner w/ Bama. The Flowmasters might be a mistake for a GT500, but I figured it's a good place to start and I can always go bigger on my next mod. Again, thanks for all the help.

Now I just need the weather to improve in MN. I had a softball game last night at 9. It was 36 and snowing. I was not happy.

I feel for you as I used to live on the east coast, but now live in sunny
New Mexico where I get to drive my GT500 often. I'd like to hear what you
think of the CAI and the tuner. I might do those sometime too.

It's miserable. Worst Spring ever. It's supposed to be nice tomorrow and wintery mix again on Saturday. Ridiculous! Anyone else here from MN by chance?

I can't wait to get everything and put it in. I'll let you know the results.

I found out that my tuner program got delayed and my order has not shipped yet. I decided to screw it and went back to the Magnaflow catback exhaust when I called in. I just felt guilty putting the American Thunders on my GT500. I hope I didn't just make a mistake.

I went with Stainless Steel Systems Off Road Muffler Delete with 4" double wall tips and I LOVE the sound my SGT makes now...should have come like that from the factory. I drive it a lot, and I get absolutely no droan out on the highway...it is actually just as quiet on the highway as if it still had mufflers.

I agree, the factory exhaust (at least on my 08) is pretty sad. Not sure why you would make a muscle car and have it sound so weak when there is an easy fix to the issue. I'm sure some marketing exec somewhere did a ton of research and decided that was the route to take.

Raining here again today. I guess I can't complain, at least it's not snowing...

Everything just shipped. Should be here by the end of the day Wed. I can't wait, it's been 5 days and it feels like 5 weeks!

I'll make sure to get some sound before and after. Pretty sure I'm going to have to bring it back to WI to install though, I don't have a lift at my house.

haha mine got it's second coat the other day. I can't believe how bad this spring has been. It's May and there were flurries when I left for work this morning. Crazy!

Everything came in Wednesday and I took the day off work Thursday to put it on the lift and get it all installed.

The exhaust sounds fantastic!! Very deep and throaty, just what I was looking for. I drove the entire 2 hrs back to MN on Thursday with the windows down and the radio off. I stopped at 3 gas stations just so I could get back on the road and run through the gears again :)

Install was very simple on both the exhaust and the Steeda CAI. The CAI & tune made a big difference in power.

I will put it on the dyno as soon as I can. I will also get some audio in the very near future.

Thanks for all the input, I got exactly what I was looking for and more!!

Glad to hear all is well!! Let that Eaton whine!!... now one other thing you might want to do soon...I installed a set of Steeda Billet LCA's and it got rid of the wheel hop...my 08 jumped around like a fat kid waiting for ice cream LOL...and the most important accessory is the little item sitting in the passengers seat...a rumbling Snake certainly attracts those!!

Hahaha those are going to be ordered this weekend. I can't stand the wheel hop. Probably should have ordered those from the beginning.

Oh yeah, this car is definately a head turner. The gf would not be amused if she new about the girl in the BMW I was talking to at the gas station today.

I never acknowledge the existance of any "temporary passenger seat accessories" to my wife LOL...
