Sorry if this question is inane, but in addition to owning one of the Dodge members of the family, im 18, so you guys have a slight advantage over me. I saw a red mustang, looked later than a 66 or so, younger than a 69, cant be more spesific than that, with gold striping. in the bottom strip it sait GT 350A. whats that mean? my first guess was it meant automatic, but you wouldnt want to brag about that. so is it a clone? Maybe the restorer couldn't spell? It could have been a clone GTA, have seen clones with GT350W (Windsor) and GT350C (Cleveland). Somebody probably individualizing their car.
My thoughts ... You indicated that the striping was gold. Perhaps the "A" was actually an "H". Whether the car was an actual Shelby or not is questionable, but the 1966 Hertz rental Shelbys featured gold side stripes with GT350H vs the publicly sold 1966 Shelbys which featured blue or white GT350 side stripes. The 1966 Hertz stripes are reproduced and I have seen them on real Shelbys, clones, and other Mustangs; 1966 and later. The others responding to your post are referring to the 1967 Mustang GT. In 1967 (and only in 1967) the Mustang GTs which had an automatic transmission received special GTA exterior badging. The GTA badge on the side of the car would be placed in the rocker panel stripe at the lower edge of the fender near the fronta edge of the door. It is very possible for a 1967 GTA to have a gold side stripe. However, the 1967 Mustang GTA would not have a 350 designation. Hope this helps ..... Rick
I got a good look at the thing, it was definately an "A". and it definately wasnt hertz, it was Red with gold stripes, not black with gold. jim
Just so 375 and others know this: not all the 66 Hertz car were absolutly Black w/gold stripes. They came in all the colors available, and some not even had gold stripes, nor an automatic trans. But, yes, a majority of the 66 Hertz cars were black W/gold stripes with an automatic.
