Is anyone reproducing a correct (or pretty close) rear parking brake cables for the '67. Mine function o.k. are looking pretty shabby and I would like to change them out. What I've seen at many parts vendors are the "replacement" type which serves the purpose but do not seem to look very similiar to the originals. I've seen nice '65's & '69's but not much for the 67. Thanks for the input...
Nobody makes a dead on one. The inline tube ones are the closest but still somewhat lacking. The ones for 68 are closer than the 67 ones. http://inlinetube.com/Brake Cables/brake cable listings/bcables20.htm
Tim's right, you have terrible repros , you have the inline tube ones, and you have originals. forget trying to find NOS ones. I have only see one set in the last 25 years. AMK used to have them made up (10years ago) which were exact except for the FOMOCO stamp . They have been obsolete for about 7 years or more. The AMK repros are extremely rare and go for 400. or 500.00 pair IF you can find any. It's ironic that a repro part is appreciating in value. Bob
I appreciate the input Tim & Bob. I've thought about attempting to detail my originals as functionally they are o.k. However the small rubber boots on the forward end of the housing are pretty much toast as well as the rubber sleeve over the housing has a number of cracks. The most obvious thing I could see from the picture of the In-Line cable was the lack of the rubber sleeve over the housing. Thanks again.
Their 68 ones have the rubber sleeves. Clean the loose dirt and degrease the cables then soak them in evaporust for a couple days. You can gets the cable seals (boots) from AMK
