(disclaimer: i know nothing about shelby... so i need your help and advice)... so don't burn me could you tell me how much a 1968 red shelby convertible GT-500kr (8T03R213270) would be worth? i was told this was the only car exported to japan ... ?? worth a fair bit? if so, is there a central registry where i can find more info on this particular car and it's location???
No burn here but to ask how much is a red KR worth is like asking is how pretty is your wife? There are dozens of determining factors based on condition, history and completeness. On a KR a missing starter delay, wrong carb and aircleaner can set you back 5K so you better know what you are buying and if you don't hire someone who does. It will be the best money you ever spent especially if you don't buy the car because of issues. The japan thing is no biggie either to add or subtract from value just kind of cool. Again Its not that simple. There are restores and there are restores. Who does it and their level of expertise and knowledge is a huge part. The level you want to take it do is a huge part. Do you want a nice driver or a Div 1 show car? As I said before what you start with is a big factor as well. You can only polish a turd so much. If you start with a nice car what you end up with will be nicer. A car with all its original sheet metal and fiberglass.will be worth more. The car with more of its original components will be worth more. Anyway I can give you some guidelines. Forget about 300K. The only cars that are bringing even around the 200K figure are ones that have rare desirable options like a black 4 spd ac car or an unrestored survivor in top condition. I would put the range for a properly restored red KR vert between 110 and 160 these days. A top notch restoration by a proven restorer that has one some major awards like SAAC/MCA/TS concours would boost that up by as much as 10-20%
I am in total agreement with Mr Lea's prices. Once you start getting up above $175,000 the car better have some national award (SAAC, TS or MCA) and it better not be missing any parts. Root Beer Drive-in trophys don't count.
Hi Guys/Gals, Can you tell, how do I find out whether the car has changed in ownership? If so, can I find out how much it was sold for? The last owner was a bloke in Australia, that's was in 2004. Is there a registry where I can get any updated info? PS: I know nothing about Shelby cars... so whatever info you can provide..much appreciated... thank you in advance.
