The SuperSnake and Mr Ellis were at this past weekend's "National Musclecar Show and Corvette Nationals" in the Stephen's Convention Center in Rosemont Il (right next to O'Hare airport-Chicago) (Nov 22nd/23rd 2009)
Mr Ellis shows the car with some skinny litle Goodyear white walls on it. the same kind Carroll was filmed going 170MPH on it the car. Also, he had Mr McCann there, He was the fellow who, while working at Mel Burns Ford put the 427 in it.
    Fabulous car.

My car got a Gold in Concours Stock. Pretty good as there were two MCA Gold Card judges doing most of the judging on it. Bad (or maybe good) lighting showed more paint aging.......well, the paint is mostly 25 years old now. Wow, time flies.

    Hi Charley,

An absolute stunning car and congratulations!

There is also a special car of interest which is in the backgroud of one the pictures.

This looks to be the 55 Chev of Rod Hadfield (Castlemaine, Victoria) which I believe was powered by a Rolls Royce Supercharged Merline Engine out of a WW2 Fighter Plane - 2,500 to 3,000HP.

For your interest, I belive Rod used to get this out on the road sometimes for an occassional blast, as it was fully engineered and street registered.

Rod is regarded as the 'Grand Daddy' of the Hot Rodding community here in Australia and an absolute legend of the sport...Also, a real nice guy!

    Regards,

I could be VERY WRONG on this, but, I saw a car LIKE this on ebay a few years ago. I think the price was up to 186 grand & then it was gone. But like I said, it may or may not be the same car.---S.

There have been a number of clones made up to look like the Super Snake GT500. Only 3 427 67 GT500's were produced at Shelby American. Of the Three the one designated the Super Snake was on ebay maybe 10 years ago which is when Charley bought it off line , the other 2 427 GT500's never have been on ebay and are currently in restoration. There has been a changing of the Guard and a new owner Richard Ellis has the pleasure of being the caretaker of the Super Snake for going on 2 years now. Bob

did the "other 2" 427 gt 500's get their motors installed at shelby or at a dealer like the SS did? Why was the engine upgrade done at a dealer and not in house at shelby ?

When Charley bought it off line, how much was it being advertised for on-line?

I never bought anything on e-Bay so not sure how it works. Like to hear wwas the Super Snake was advertised for online. Can the seller offer it to a buyer offline the same time as it's being offered online at a set price? Also I know of a barn finder in San diego who was trying to buy a Ferrari hidden under a kit car and he had a bid at the asking price of $26,000 and change but then had something called a snipe bid for ten times more that he was ready to submit at the last second in case other bidders came in ahead of his lower price. Has anybody used a snipe bid to buy a car online who can explain how it's done better?
