    Hello everyone,
I just joined this great Forum in hopes of getting information on a car I recently found here in Saudi arabia. the car is a 1968 red gt500KR convertible. I am looking to buy this car, but have doubts of its original pedigree. The VIN tags on the car have all been removed! is there any where on the chassis I can find production numbers or anything to help me authenticate this automobile? any help would be greatly appreciated :)

What numbers can you find? Door Tag? Tag @ base of windshield? #'s stamped into front aprons @ edge of fenders near shock towers?
Reply with what you find & we will help.

The Ford VINs are stamped in the top of two front fender aprons. As mentioned, the windshiled tag should be on the right side, lower corner behind the glass. If all those items were gone, it would take an examination of the physical features of the unibody to identify the car. That would be very difficult and you would need an expert to help you. Its unlikely the car could could be identified positively. Then, there is always that pesky paper trail....what does the title say?

You can email me anytime at Coralsnake68@hotmail.com

I would be glad to tell you what you have found.

Everything is gone, they obviously did a mickymouse job on the resto. they removed the door tags during the paint job, the guy said he would call the shop that did it to see if they have any of the tags... the whole engine bay has been re-painted. I'm checking the engine tomorrow, to see if the motor is right, it looks like a cobra jet.
all the decals are correct, interior, pedals, quad exhaust outlets, cobrajet gas cap, air condition and auto transmission but the chassis numbers are no where to be found.
the money he is asking is not big, considering the car is a runner with no visible damage. I do not think he knows what it is, nor do i think he cares.
I asked the owner if he would allow me to take it to a shop with a lift to check the transmission and the engine codes. the guy inherited it from his fathers estate, and its been in storage since the early 90's. Paper trail is what i am going to start figuring out next, its really hard to do this here. the reg is not to be found, nor are the license plates... :s Thank you guys for your posts I appreciate the feed back

one detail i might have over looked is that it might just be a 67 with a 500kr clone mod, could that be the reason there are no vin numbers on the passenger side?

Don't take this personally but if you can't tell if its a 67 or 68 chassis then you'd better be working with someone who does. Pictures are best, either Pete or I could help

No offence taken, I really need help with this, I do not have any experience with 67-68 mustangs, I have only worked with 66 and 64 1/2 in the past. I have some pics of the car, and would gladly share them with you guys. I will post them ASAP.

ok so I have attempted to attach some pics of the car and Its engine bay. The only code I managed to find on the car was on the engine located on the rear driver side of the block, the codes seem to be punched on we has to scrape the paint to get to it then use a small mirror to see it. 0>47990 or it looks like 0347990?

Where are those stamped? Doesnt appear to be partial VIN or block assembly date. Can you upload pictures?

So, far no pictures. If you are getting close enough to find engine stampings on cast parts, you should be able to come up with a VIN. The VIN would be stamped into the upper fender apron in the lower left, corner of this picture. Right between the washer bottle and the fender.

There may be a corresponding number on the right front fender apron. It is also on the windshield tag and the door tag. If you dont have any VIN numbers, you are really wasting your time.

The numbers you posted are of little or no value in determining what type of car you saw.
