Were they black or natural aluminum finish on these? is does not appear that there was any black paint on it before but want to do it right! Thanks
All of the "68" Shelby A/C compressors I have ever seen were aluminum York units. The Shelby York unit was typically painted aluminum color (vast majority) or left bare aluminum. Service replacements were black. If it were my car I would simply paint over the black with non smudge aluminum paint (aluma blast -Eastwood)for a correct historical look.
If was a early unit that had the external brushes then the clutch part was black. If it had the internal donut shaped electromagnet then that part as well as the outer clutch were both plated a silver zinc or Cadmium look. Some service units and rebuilds were typically painted black .Bob
It has the donut style and it appears it was painted silver possibly i was just unsure of the clutch cause the inside of it is silver but the outside was black. Hope you guys dont get sick of all the question I will have during this restoration!
Alright I think this is my last question relating to the a/c! Bracket colors, whats black and whats natural? there are the two idlers the support bracket and the head mounting bracket? It appears the support bracket was black but not sure about the rest. Thanks Again
Brackets are bare steel or zinc phosphate and the pulleys are black with a silver or zinc phosphate center depending on style of pulley. There is early and a later 70 style which is not correct for Shelby. It has a larger center.
