I know you guys are gonna get sick of me soon! But were the shock towers by that extra piece of steel that the a arm bolts through on original cars welded or not? Need to know as soon as possible car is at body shop.
Im guessing thats not a picture of a GT 500 shock tower? GT500s dont usually have the wrap around support
I am asking about the engine bay side yes, and it does not have wrap around braces but it appears to have been welded but not too neatly so I am not sure if someone did this after it was new or if it was a factory thing? Thanks for all the help you guys have been
GT500s are usually sloppily welded. i am not sure if i have seen wrap arounds that were stitch welded. They are usually spot welded.
Never seen them. The latest build I've seen on a 500 is around 3/28. Heres a better question, did S code cars built after 4/1 ish get welded or wrap around?
Wrap arounds are extremly unusual on a 68 GT500 and the CJ style wrap arounds that I have seen on cars that you normally see them on did not include the extra welding between the shock tower and the plate from the factory. The typical GT500 did not have wrap arounds BUT they did have additional welding done with what most would consider a amateurish looking job. If I was to bet I would say at the very least the extra welding was not appropriate on a 68 build CJ wrap around , the worst case is that the wrap arounds are wrong too on the GT500 in the picture. From the little bit of info that is my opinion. You would have to see the context of the surrounding metal and over all car to make a better determination.
