My dad has a 67 shelby with a paxton blower. SN92 blower i think. anyway he recently has had some carburater problems so he bought a holley 4150 hp carb for it. We where trying the new carb in the supercharger bonnet and the linkage wont fit. Is there anyone that has experienced with this problem of getting the carburetor to fit in this bonnet. Or is there a newer aftermarket bonnet that is bigger so that he could use his new carb? Thanks Nick
I've used several different Holleys and Autolite carbs in my Paxton equipped cars. What holley is he trying to use ? A 4150 with modern cathedral float bowls should fit, even if the choke tower has not been milled off. Did he buy a Holley with the LeMans bowls? They won't fit but you can sell them easily enough. Photos ? once the photos below have been opened in photobucket, click on them to get a full size picture. Z.
nice car. that is the same blower my dad has. what carb r u running. because we have a 4150 hp but the linkage does not fit in the bonnet. did you buy diffent linkage for it or did you modify the linkage? and what is that extra line that t's off before the line enters the bonnet. is it a fuel pressure regulater or what?
it is this carb: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-0-82651/ my linkage fits fine. If yours doesn't fit, contact Craig Conley of Paradise Wheels. I'm sure he can sell you the correct linkage for your needs. The extra line goes to to an isolator. Gas flows into one side of the isolator. The isolator is divided into two cavities separated by a diaphragm. On the other side of the diaphragm the cavity is filled with antifreeze/water. A line from that side runs into passenger compartment & into the fuel pressure gauge. An increase in fuel pressure pushes the gas against the diaphragm which pushes against the antifreeze, which registers the gage. It's just a safely measure to keep a gas line out of the passenger compartment. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MAA-29806/ Photo taken at idle w/ cold engine., From left to right: Boost pressure: 0 psi Fuel Pressure: 6.5 psi air fuel ratio: 13.1:1 vacuum: 18 inches oil pressure: 72 psi (hot engine oil pressure is about 30 psi at idle) Z.
that is the exact same carb that i have but my linkage is black and doesnt fit.Do you think holley could hook me up with some difrent linkage. and do you think i could run a fuel pressure regulater with the bonnet and everything.
can you take a photo of exactly what part of the linkage doesn't fit and post it? Often a hacksaw or dermal tool is needed to cut off the large "hoop" part of the carb linkage that sometimes hits the lower half of the carb bonnet. you shouldn't be needing a fuel pressure regulator. The pressure is regulated solely by the boost reference line going from the blower outlet to the top half of the fuel pump. When the blower pressure goes up, the fuel does automatically. Z.
well zrayr u have been a really big help.thank you. do you have any troubles getting the plumbing fittings to make the corner of the float bowl and bonnet. Because on our shelby we had to pinch the 90 degree bends on the plumbing off of the float bowls.
this is what you need: CLAMP STYLE 90° MALE ELBOW Edelmann # 822550 Inverted Flare Tube 5/16” Hose Size 5/16” or Edelmann # 822560 Inverted Flare Tube 5/16” Hose Size 3/8” or Edelmann # 822660 Inverted Flare Tube 3/8” Hose Size 3/8” I've used the # 822550 & currently the # 822660. I wanted to use the bigger 3/8" fitting as I had gone to 3/8" fittings and fuel line for the rest of the fuel system. I did have to grind off the corner of the fitting and a little off of the inner bonnet to get it fit. If I had it to do over again I would just go with the 5/16" which fits without grinding anything. The 3/8" fitting is absolutely overkill to have on each bowl. A quality auto parts store will have an edelmann fittings display. http://www.plews-edelmann.com/brochure.cfm?brochure=1865&location_id=2516 http://www.plews-edelmann.com/index.cfm?location_id=2516 http://www.plews-edelmann.com/downloads/download_common.cfm?file=90078.pdf&folder=brochure Z.
3/8" I couldn't find one in 3/8", so I bought a tubing bender at Sears and learned how to bend it myself. After a few mis-steps I came up a few that were passable. Z.
check post #7 by the OP. He was having trouble with the linkage fitment, not the choke tower or float bowls, etc. Z.
I'm really concerned about terms here. It's way past time we saw a photo of the problem. Since the "linkage" is not part of the carburetor, I don't see how the carburetor is the problem. Holley can't fix what they don't make. If the throttle lever on the carb is the problem, that can usually be fixed in a few minutes with a 1/8" drill, or sheet metal punch.
we are using the term linkage here to include the Holley fittings at the end of the throttle shafts. Sorry if that was confusing & not precise enough. In post #8 I describe the issue I had with the round hoop that (is part of the Holley carb) which hits the Paxton enclosure. Z.
Exactly. If you were using a period 4150 (non LeMans bowl) the Holley throttle shafts wouldn't be an issue. By using a more modern Holley like the 650 he is talking about the loop used to work the later kickdown shaft needs to be cut off
