OK so now I've resigned myself to the fact that the guys at SVT will probably not give us the RED MULE that we all initially fell in love with. So, I feel that if they won't give us what we want, then we will have to go and get it ourselves.
Having said that, here's the question, How many of you would buy an aftermarket fiberglass hood and tail to make the latest version of the GT 500 look like the beloved RED MULE?
I ask because if there's enough interest generated, then I can approach someone like Mier Racing in CA to see if they'd be willing to take on this project to create a kit for the 2007 GT 500RM

If I have to spend 40K and then spend more money to modify it, I won't buy it at all. I do have a strong feeling though that we will be happy with the final design

I agree. The Red Mule is what should be offered as that is what they tempted us with! spending money to Modify the car more is also not on my list! Give us what we want !!!

OK, let's pretend that FORD actually cares about what we think, then I'd jump on the band wagon and demand the RED MULE design.
But if things go the way they seem to be going, then I really believe that we will probably ony have the current "yellow" version, with a hefty price tag to boot. Look at the most recent "spy" photos taken of the two current test mules. Do you see the hood or tail that we initailly saw on the GT 500RM? I truely hope I am wrong, and we soon will see what the final design will turn out to be. I just feel the FORD won't spend extra money on re-tooling parts that they already have in production.

I was only trying to offer an option if things didn't go the way we had hoped:mellow:

If you added the kit to a regular Mustang GT you still have to spend the money to do something about horsepower. I think you end up with more money in it than the Shelby would cost and have less resale value. That being said, hell yes I would buy the kit. I hate the yellow car and I never thought of my cars as investments, usually more like money pits.

No, it would not be original, it would look BETTER than original!
Besides, who's to say you couldn't store the parts you were replacing, and include them with the car, should you decide to sell it as "original" ?

    True,

But until you sell it, you risk being Labeled a "Poser".
Nobody, aside from Yourself, would have a Clue what you're really driving. You'd become Exasperated and Fed up Continually having to Explain and Prove to the Masses that what you're driving is Indeed an Original 07' GT500 and not a "Riced up Pony".
    Man, This isn't a Subaru!!
I have a Feeling that this car will be a Great One that Ford will quickly Cancel due to Cost and Insurance Concerns. It will become a Keeper.
But then again, What do I Know??! :D

KEEP BIG RED AND KEEP S H E L B Y CENTRED ACCROSS THE DECKLID!!!!!

Now remember, I'm not pushing the "riced up" look that so many add-on ground effects kits look like. :noway:
I was trying to get the hood and deck lid made to copy the ORIGINAL red mule.
The only thing that it could be mistaken for would be what the GT 500 SHOULD have looked like... COOL!
But, as you said, this may all be speculation, and it may end up looking cool on it's own....I hope!

BTW, I spoke to a guy at a recent Shelby Club meeting, who recently took a tour of the plant where they're going to be building the '07 GT 500.
The tour guide, who had the answers concerning about the car said that:

    1) the hood was swapped out for the current version, due to the fact that the larger 5.8 engine didn't allow enough clearance on top to allow for the swept down exhaust port of the RM. Cooling issues were mentioned too. That's why they went for the surface mounted grilles, to allow more room for the 5.8
    2) The deck lid design, was nixed because the factoy did not have enough room to store the different deck lids for the multitude of cars that are produced on the same assembly line. It was explained that you'd need floor space to have the lids available when a GT 500 comes down the line for assembly. I guess they're building a few different types of Fords and a mazda in the same plant. The lack of space to accomodate parts for all the cars being assembled, drove the idea to use the GT lid, with a different stick-on tail instead.

From what's being seen on the streets (i.e. most recent Las Vegas pics) I tend to think that the current changes to the car will stick, as I can't say I've seen the GT 500RM version being tested. Kinda interested to see what the end result will be.

Apparently & obviously the tour guide knows NOTHING about how cars are assembled their & is blowing smoke up everyone’s wahzoo who ask. :noway:
I work in the automotive parts supplying world & we ship to FORD everyday, several times a day, Monday through Friday & some Saturdays when they are working. Everything & anything that is bolted, applied, stuck in, or on that car, is shipped to the assembly plants just hours before they need it & not a minute before… it’s called J.I.T. (Just In Time).

FORD sits on nothing other than a few hours worth of parts. Shipping trucks are held at the security gates until their loads are ready to be pulled at a certain time, they are not allowed to go in a minute before. The Red Shelby at the New York Show that was unveiled had Big openings in the hood without the cheap plastic vents that are currently shown on all the other test mules we are seeing. So why did they even bother putting them on their to begin with? :thumbdown I say remove the cheap looking plastic vents in the hood & you get more unrestricted air-flow for cooling the motor down. The lettering across the back could even be stand-up badge emblems with adhesive on the back & it would still look better than none at all. But that’s my opinion.

The More & More I think about it, if they remove the SHELBY lettering across the back I am more in favor of ordering any & all after market parts to make it more like it was presented at the New York unveiling, & the original Deck lid, Spoiler & Hood will then be stored away for safe keeping.

If you really think about it & look at it from any angle going down the road, it pretty much looks like a tweaked Mustang GT, with a wider grille & small cobra badges on the front fenders & on the grille.

The Engine Valve Covers say powered by SVT
    The Supercharger says SVT
The Center Caps on the Rims have SVT on them
The front seats have embroidered Cobras on them (the Grey ones in the Yellow Mule).

Doesn’t that make it just another SVT Cobra rather than a highly publicized Carroll Shelby GT 500 car? The ONLY things that say SHELBY on them are the Gas cap & Steering wheel horn button! :thumbdown Now who's going to see that going down the road? :noway: Maybe if were lucky enough, (SVT) will put Shelbys name on the cover of the owners manual that goes in the glove box so No one else will see that too. :thumbdown

Also, why no “White” rag tops available for the convertibles? Only Black & Parchment (tan) are offered for the 2006 Mustangs? If I order a Blue one with white stripes, Black or Parchment just doesn’t do it.

I’m starting to wonder if this isn’t more about the SVT dream team car then a car with Carroll Shelby’s input, influence & stamp of approval with his name on it, hopefully his name will be somewhere on the outside of the car.... like ACROSS THE BACK!

Please, Please, Please, keep the Shelby lettering across the back or it's just another SVT Cobra as far as I'm concerned.

:noway: I'm from the '60's era. So if there is no " SHELBY " wording displayed on the grill or rear panel, it is not a SHELBY. In toher words, , "it's got to say it to be it !!!!!"

Amen....I'm with you 100% on that.

BTW.....Anyone think that maybe it's possible that they just used the GT rear components to build the mules because 1) they aren't tooled up for the Shelby parts yet; 2) to keep from drawing TOO much attention to the mules; 3) to test what the visual impact of / reaction to the car would be without the special components (and added cost) on the rear?

.....still trying to understand why in the world they would so radically F*@! up the back of that car by design.

How hard would it be to add in a solid filler piece on the trunk, move the third light to the top of the window, and put the S H E L B Y back on the trunk?

At this point I don't think I'd go for an aftermarlet hood &/or deck lid. I would consider adding SHELBY lettering somewhere if none comes on the car. '07 brings up a point regarding how these cars will be ID'd, regardless of the cosmetic fluff discussed here. It would be VERY cool if these had a sequential Shelby/SVT coding. To me, it's the character of the car (how it drives) that make Shelbys special, not the looks.

Fairly Simple. However, to make it look right you'd want the same Typeset/Font that's on the car. Putting 60s replica SHELBY lettering on the back would look Odd, when the rest of the car lettering is 2005/6 Version.
    My thought anyhow!
