Hi i have another question. Like i said before i`m building an R Model Clone. Most cars i have seen are not build up perfectly. Some people just put on the apron and close the louvers and think the have a perfect 1965 GT 350R clone built up. Here you seen some pictures like mine will exactly look when i`m finished with it, exept that i have a 8" rear end not 9". And that i`m not installing the whole safety cage just the roll bar like original. What will be the price for a car like this??? Just that i know that i`m still doing good and not waisting too much money. Thank you very very much, i can`t wait for your answers. Jerry
I have seen some nice, correct, not overly done go for high thirties. I have also seen some really nice overly done go for much more. One thing I would strongly recommend, unless you already have one, is a 5 Speed trans.
@KenG. Thank you very much for your answer. Why do you suggest a 5 speed? Mine is a Borg Warner T10 Steel Case. @roddster I don`t know if you have understood my question. But when i hear the answer of KenG. i know that i`m still doing ok. It wouldn`t make any sence if i`d invested for example 50 thousand and would hear that these cars are only worth 25 thousand. That would be a really bad deal, and i had too many bad deals allready. By the way you never know what comes tomorrow? Bye Jerry
The 5-speed just makes the car more driveable. Especially with the high price of gasoline these days. robin
Jerry: A very nice '66 Shelby clone (not an R-model) recently sold here in the Kansas City area for, believe it or not, $40,000. It was one of the highest prices I have heard about for any clone anywhere. One of the things you have to weigh is: are you in this car for an investment or for enjoyment? I've had cars where I invested twice as much money in them as they were worth, but between the construction and then the driving, I enjoyed every last bit of that 50% depreciation. Typically, clones have never been good investments. It's always been better to restore a Mustang fastback to it's showroom condition rather than modify it. However, the recent trend in restomodding, combined with the skyrocketing prices of original Shelbys, has made the clone market stonger than ever before. But I think it's safe to assume that if you had this car completed right now, and it was a top-notch replica in top-notch condition, you are looking at somewhere in the $35K range.
Hi 289Cobra Of course your some way right, but be honest, if you had known that the car is more worth than what you had invested, and also the driving performance was ok,It would have been better!? Thank you. Bye Jerry
Jerry, Just to let you know, I am in the middle of building a 67 Shelby Trans Am race/street car. I have budgeted 35K (I'll probably spend more) with me doing all the work but engine and paint. But I do plan on driving it on the streets and highway and thats where you will need a 5 speed. I have a 67 Conv. and it has the Tremec. I would not even consider not having one. I feel IF you go to sell it, it is more desireable. That is why also there are so many companies selling conversion kits too. Even my Shelby had a 5 speed. KG Here is a picture of what I am replicating...
WOW!!!! That thing looks mean! I like it! The Good Years i wish they would have them here in germany too, but i have`nt seen them anywhere. Shipping ist too expensive! Please post some pictures of your race car. Pppppplllllllllleeeeeaaaaaasssssssseeeeeeeee!!!!! Thank you Bye Impressed Jerry
I have a 5 Speed in the COBRA. Makes all the difference in the world. I was always wishing for a 5th gear around 70MPH in the GT500 I had. Driveability is more important to me than originality. Not that I would throw away or sell an original part mind you, but I would certainly put a 5 Speed trans in any Car that had a 4 speed!
Hi daltondavid The difference why i stick to the 4 speed is i am going to leave the 3.00:1 ratio for the beginning. This setup is in my coupe right now. As you know 4th gear shifter ist like 3rd gear automatic 1.00:1 ratio. And with a 3.00:1 rear end ratio is ok to drive. You are right if you have a 4.11:1 or 3.89:1 it might be stupid. High rpm`s and low gas milage. Maybe i put a 5 speed in some day but for the moment i`m broke. The 302 engine of mine is brilliant, it accelerates the coupe from about 30-130 equal with a Porsche 911 built in 92 with modified engine. And this with a 3 speed automatic. Pretty good don`t you think? I think the 4 speed will be a lot of fun to drive not to mention the low weight of the R model clone. Bye Jerry
Jerry, Opinions are like A--es, everyone has one. Obviously, doing all these fancy things are one thing, and having the cash is another. I am sure that car will suit all your needs. Have a great time with it. I'll post more pictures of my Trans Am car in the future when is a little further along. KG
ha ha ha i like that!!!!!! Thank you KenG. With my coupe equal tó the Porsche, what would you say will happen with the same engine, same rearend ratio,4 speed and about 300 pounds less weight. Do you think that he`ll eat my dust??? Bye Jerry hows hoping to kick some butt next summer!
