Don't worry. Shelby will be more than happy with the money he is making off of this car I plan on putting the following name on the back of mine "MCQUEEN" or maybe give it the "GEEK SQUAD" paint job just to freak people out.
Anytime I'm spending 5 figures on something, I'm concerned about ALL of it. I have a house I'd like to sell you..looks pretty crappy on the outside, but the inside is beautiful..
I think the deletion of the "SHELBY" name across the back was pretty crappy too, but if I get one, I'll just buy the aftermarket letters for a '68 Shelby from NPD, and put them on myself. The hood also sucks, but what can you do. I'm sure there will be plenty of aftermarket ones available. What I truly CAN'T live with are those LeMans stripes that have that cheap, unfinished look to them. They should extend the full length of the car, front to rear, and there should not be any breaks in them, such as around the hood lip, or the hood scoops, etc. That just looks cheesy as hell. If that's what they are going to look like from the factory, I will choose "stripe delete" and put the proper ones on later.
Does anybody REALLY know what the production car is going to look like? We're all hearing speculation and rumors but who amongst us REALLY KNOWS????? Please let us know. I for one have no idea. We saw the RED SHELBY case out to us as the car of SVT's idea of production. Like a lot of retailers, a bait and switch idea has risen. Like a lot of you, I look for the LOOKS of the car as much as the MECHANICAL abilities. If the car looks good, we can only hope it rung good. We don't go out there and look for an ugly woman to marry in hopes she can cook !!!!! ( at least I didn't ) CAll it male ego if you will. I've wanted a real "S H E L B Y" ever since I saw the first one in 1968, a GT 500. So if this new SVT doesn't say S H E L B Y across the rear , or somewhere on the outter body, I'll be asking this thread if anybody has a '66 - '69 Shelby for sale at a reasonable price. B)
Ok, most everyone that I've heard on hear are not pleased with most of the changes so far to the GT500. Some have said that they are willing to accept the changes to the hood, because it seems from the latest pics, the final hood design is in place. The Biggest complaints have come about the changes to the rear of the car. 1) the center brake light 2) not having the SHELBY badging on the back 3) no rear defusser The 2nd one is the largest issue for most, including myself... If your going to buy a shelby you want people to know that its a SHELBY without having to stop to point it out to them. Here is the original NY concept with a change that I made. Although it is very crude, because I dont have a good photo editing program.... I wanted to see what people thought, if SVT were to Place the SHELBY badging in this position on the rear deck of the GT500 ????? Does it look good there or not ? If somone with PhotoShop wants to make this look less crude, feel free, id like to see what a cleaner version would look like. Another thought that we have heard, since th center brake light will remain in the same place as the mustang GT, they might put a small SHELBY badging on the right side of the center brake light. Maybe someone with Photoshop, can try this out so we can see what it would look like? Or Put the "SHELBY" on the left side of the center brake light, and a "GT500" on the right side of the center brake light to balance it out ? Anyone want to give it a Try? Let me know what you think
Sorry, I do not like the SHELBY lettering broken up by a fake gas cap. I am in favor of getting rid of the gas cap to take care of that problem. I also like the idea of a smaller SHELBY and GT500 left and right of the brake lamp. robin
I cant decide either, that is why I decided to post it... would like to see someone put smaller badging on either side just to see what it looks like... but need someone with more skill than me to do it. I can do it without the gas cap and not broken up and see what it looks like... Point Blank... I just hope they are considering options such as these.. and hope to see them on the final version of the car. Or put some badging Ideas on some of these mules to get peoples opinions on them.. Thanks for the input !!!
The sad thing is, if they start making the Shelby emblems all the clowns in V6 mustangs will put them on too.
Anything on the back to identify as a Shelby would work for me. I cringe at the thought of a V6 w/ Shelby exterior designations; but it's a free country. That's why what's built-in is more important to me. Please, no house digs.
OK, good idea of placing the " SHELBY " as you did. I also agree with loosing the fake gas cap and not seperating the letters, also agree with the GT 500 badging beside the 3rd light. The hood is a given, OK, we'll have to live with it, it could be worse. I wish SVT would open up an IDEA line on their site to pool the thoughts of shelby fans like us, posting the results and then advising the release date of the production car. YES, I too want those behind, beside and the rear few infront of me to know that a SHELBY is there. Thanks for the info, your computer skills are much more advanced than mine.
You didn't like my house dig? Seriously though...I am sorry if you took offense, I meant it tongue-in-cheek. Andy
Guys....take heart. The new article in the Silver Pony, where they are talking about the GT500 drop top said: "“GT500” is emblazoned inside the side rocker stripes, and the name “ SHELBY ” is prominently featured across the rear deck. The SVT logo can be seen on the wheel center caps, a signature SVT location, as well as on the doorsill plates. To top if off, the “gas cap” medallion between the taillights reads “Shelby GT500” centered on the Cobra image. This sounds mike a return to some resemblance of the red car's tail markings. Maybe somebody IS listening........ One can only hope......
Nevermind....I just looked at some more pics they had, and I don't see the "prominent" SHELBY name in those pics anywhere.....looks like the same ugly-assed tail to me... sorry guys......
Where are you guys getting all these up to date photos of this mule anyway ??? May want to check with the editor of the Silver Pony and see where they got their info. on the SHELBY. Just another thought.
Yes the article says one thing and the pictures definately tell a different story... Makes you wonder what car the writer was looking at when he did the article. Not the same car that is in the pictures... obviously. ha !!!
Andy, no problem. The IDEA line on the SVT site is a GREAT idea. Wonder if they are monitoring these threads?
