Need some help on 69 air cleaner. I am just finishing up the restoration of #549 when I bought the car it had a after market air cleaner on it and the what I thought was the original ram air cleaner in the spare parts pile. That unit seems to be to thick in the middle and seems to want to bow the hood if I close it all the way?? I do have a new gasket on the hood and it may just be to stiff?? Does anyone have a way to tell if I have the right air cleaner base??? Should there be a raised lip type ledge that the element sits on I do not have that in mine and have seen that on some bases?? I could post some pictures Thanks Dominic
The "Hood Bow" is Natural on all 69 Shelby's due to the Heat and old age. There are 2 different ram air to hood seals for the 350 and 500 also. You may want to double check carb application spacers and intake and Make sure they are right. I am not sure about the breather base on a 350. It looks pretty much like a regular 351w with the small ram air lid. This may give you some ideas on where to start checking.
