I have been in a 7 year restoration of my car. I have so many questions but the one I need now is where do the wires to the tachometer hook into the car at. What locations are these wires hooked into. Could this possibly solve my probem of an open circuit so I can start my car with out hot wiring it? I told you I had a lot of questions. Hope some of you buds can help so I can get back being a part of the club scene. I'd like to get one positve to get me moving on this restoration again
Hi Kenneth, The tach is hooked up like a Rally Pac tach on a Mustang. It's in the circuit between the positive side of the coil (resistor wire) and ignition switch. The Mustang 66 shop manual shows the color of each wire and how to connect them. It's very straight forward and easy to hooke up. Texas Swede
Thanks Texas Swede for your information. I have shop manuals but we couldn't see anything in them that helped. I will try again, maybe I need to look harder. I think we may have a incomplete manual. Right now I can't start the car without hot wiring it. I think I have everything hooked up but the tach but I didn't think this would prevent us from having a full curciut so it could be key started. I'm basically cutting my teeth on this car and I am really struggling.
Hi Ken, I have the 66 Shop Manual in front of me now and the Rally Pac wiring can be seen in section 15 page 16. If you have an original 66 Tach you just hook it up between the wire that is coming from the coil (pink resistor wire) and the end going to the ignition switch. To be precise: Black wire from Tach (female connector) shall be connected to pink resistor wire (male connector) and red wire (male connector) from Tach shall be connected to red-green stripe (female connector) going to switch. If you connect the pink and red-green wire together, i.e. bypass the Tach the car shall start without any problems. The light hook up is also shown. If you have a repo tach it is most likely to be connected differently. Good luck! Please keep me informed how it's going. You can send an e-mail. Texas Swede
