Help! For you die-cast model car experts....

Go to ebay....search "Lane Shelby". You'll find the highest quality. bar none.

 

Well, you asked for highest quality, which is probably Lane at this minute.
I have an ERTL 67 Shelby, with what I added to the chrome around the windows, and of course, the two little lights in the upper scoops (just like my real #0036 has)
But, I fail to see a $40.00 increase in difference (or more) between the Lane and the ERTL die casts for so few more added details.

The most important factor is enjoyment, everything after that is negotiable. If you are a stickler for details, the Franklin Mint, Lane and Creative Masters series are at the higher spectrum of detail. These pieces also tend to appreciate more over time than your Mass Produced items because of the Limited Distribution and small production runs. Limited Production and Distribution have special meaning amoug the Collectors for obvious reasons. With regard to collecting for investment purposes, there is no guarentee that a particular piece will increase in value just like there is no gurarantee the stock you buy will go up in value. Which brings you back to the first factor, enjoyment. If you like the piece, it really doesn't matter what it costs or who made it. I have over 1300 models in my collection from Cheap to Steep !! My advice to all new hobbyist is to collect what you like. Your taste will change over time and you may find that you prefer better quality paint on your models, working suspension systems, operating drive shafts and detailed engine compartments etc... You may gravitate to a particular brand or only collect mustangs, camaros or Mopar. I can spend a entire afternoon on lots of other stuff but I think I made it clear the most important point. I been doing this for over 20 years and I still get excited when I see something new. Nothing replaces the enjoyment of owning the real cars but in a special way I get to re-live a lot of my childhood rememebering these cars and the great times we had. Hope I have answered your question. Enjoy the hobby as it was meant to be

Revell used my 65 Shelby GT350 (5s550) that Creative Masters made for Revell. Since my car is a later car and battery is under the hood they wanted
the battery in the trunk and they painted the motor blue so it would stand out better.
