I'm trying to come up with a good performing/sounding exhaust for my 67. I don't care about MCA approved stuff as I have that on my 68 and quite frankly it doesn't sound that great. I thought I'd found just what I was looking for ( http://www.drgas.com/item.asp?id=581 ) but unfortunately it only currently fits auto cars and mine is a 4 speed. They did say they're working on a version for the 4 speed cars but it'll probably be after the first of the year. Anyone have any input on things to consider? I did notice that JBA now has headers and exhaust for the car so I'd be interested to know if anyone has tried that.
I've have headers on everything. Put a set of Hookers on my KR and the fit was pretty good. Not bad at all to install. Granted it is a auto. which made it easier. For exhust I go to my muffler guy, he custom makes all my systems. Uses any kind of pipe or size I want. Fit is never a issue. My last system was 2.25 aluminized front to back, cost was $400 bucks. Find a muffler you like and have a system made.
On my KR I have a set of Hooker super comp. headers, custom made 2 1/2" aluminized exhaust with an equalizer pipe and Walker Dynomax super turbo mufflers. It has a deep sound but not loud enough to draw a lot of attention.
Years ago hookers were a very popular header for the big block mustangs and should be in their catalog, if sound is what you want , have the muffler shop put to the outsides a dump for drag racing. Tout
Lugnut, I have the Dr. Gas X pipe system on my 65 fastback with Flowmasters, Hooker Super Comps, 2 1/4 in. pipes. It sounds great! My car is also a 4 speed. Dr. Gas AKA Boyd Butler developed the X pipes on Shelbys and should be able to suggest an application to work on your Big Block car. Ranger Jerry
I did contact them...almost did the order online but thankfully called and that's when they said it wouldn't fit the big block 4 speed car. Nice gentleman. Did say they were working on it and that I should call after the first of the year. Problem is that the car will likely (yeah right) be ready before then. I like the idea of the X pipe instead of the traditional H pipe.
