Hi to all, I just purchased an 89 Daytona Shelby. It has the stickers on it but I was wondering if there was a definite way to tell if the car is a true Shelby. If it isn't I hope that I may still be a member of this board. Thanks for the help
Welcome! Sounds like you picked up a great car. 89 is my favorite year for Daytona Shelbys, it was about the best you could get as far as good parts go. As far as your car being a "true" Shelby, that's up to your interpretation, the Daytonas were all built by Dodge and never sent to Shelby's Whittier, CA facility for modification. There were a handful of Dodge Chargers, Omni, Lancers, Shadows, and Dakotas that did get sent to Shelby's facility, these cars all are considered Shelby manufactured by the EPA, NHTSA etc.. The parts on your Daytona are similar and or better than what some of the numbered "Shelby" cars received and you are very welcome on this board. There is even a Daytona section under the Dodge category. Here is a little info on the Shelby Daytonas for you: http://www.xmission.com/~dempsey/shelby/sheldoda.htm
Thanks for the info. The car is a T2 with the ground effects package, leather and all of that. I've always wanted one so now i finally have yehaaaaaaaa. I would think that it could be considered a Shelby as I don't think Carrol Shelby would allow his name to be put on a piece of factory garbage. Plus I think Dodge built the Daytona Shelby with Mr. Shelby in mind, so they could put the badging on it. I may be way out in left field, hope not but I've been wrong before. Awesome site, I thank you for having it up to be a part of
