Le Mans stripes are actually not proper on a 67-70 Shelby. while they look great, they are dealer or owner add ons. Tony Branda has a great description on how to lay them out in his catalog as they taper somewhat by 1/2 an inch.
I did mine the same way 65's are done. See back of Branda catalog. I bought my car from the origianl owner and he had the dealer add them before he picked up the car.
Ah, not all of us believe "they look great" on anything but a 65 or a 66 Shelby. I've been answering WAY too many questions about "where are the stripes" on my 67. "Well, they never put them on it at the factory, thats why".
Maybe someone should start a poll on who likes lemans stripes on the 67-68's. I added them to mine in 89 and think it adds alot to the looks.
Hi, Factory and maybe dealer installed Le Mans stripes were tapered on the 65 and 66 Shelbys but I strongly doubt that the dealer installed stripes on 67s and 68s were tapered. This was a very cheap option and the dealers probably just put two stripes on 2" apart and 10" wide. Anybody has any proof of dealer installed tapered stripes to prove me wrong in my assumptions. The stripes are like product recognition, every time you see a car that has them , you think of shelby's.saying that ,if I were to repaint my car at some point in time , the stripes would be left off.Point being the car is so close to being totally correct ,the car would be worth more without them, but I think the car looks better with them.Color of the car also has something to do with your liking or disliking, red is yes, gold and lime no.
