What kind of things can you do to a shelby with a 302 enginge besides putting a Paxton Supercharger that will increase performance and for the car to be considered stock or close to original condition.

Shelby aluminum high rise manifold just came in, waiting on Holley Carborator and trying to plan out next step.

How much can I do without mucking it up?

Plan on keeping stock exhaust manifolds and stock exhaust. Rear end is 3.89 to 1 and the 4 speed transmission is ok ( not a highway crusing machine like my diesal truck ).

My objective knowing this car will never be a 428 CJ KR500, is to sqeeze out every last bit of HP and Torque I can out of this engine and still show the car as original as I can.

The fastest street car when I was a kid was a 69 Z28 with a 302 with headers, holley car, high rise alum manifold that pretty much ruled the steets. So I have loved Trans Am class size engines since those days. Hence I would like to make the GT350 burn some real rubber.

    Tips?

Whats wrong with a Paxton??? I don't think you can expect to much from the 302 unless you do something with the exaust. You might consider using earlier HiPo exaust manifolds. They will still look stock to the unknowing, but flow better. A 5spd would make those 3.89 gears more livable and give you a little lower 1st gear. All of this will give you more shelves full of dust collectors though.
You could also consider a cam change and alum. heads painted blue. It's just how far you want to go. If it were me I would do the Paxton. I REALY like my Paxton

2nd the Paxton. Its the accessory that should have been on all 68 350's

So, from what i've been reading, [ the 302 with the supergharger, ] does that put out about the same H P & torque as the 428 P.I.?? of the 1968 version ? With much less weight than the big block ??---S.

I would guess it would put a stock J code (250 hp) in the neighborhood of 330-350 but not nearly as much torque as 428. Shelby ended up axing the Paxton idea because base cost would have been same as GT 500

Seaweed I have a Paxton on my 66 350 and it dose not have as much torque as my 69 scj coupe( July 04 Mustang Monthly) but it's not far off. Right now I think the stock heads and exaust is constipating the engine. I am planning to add alum. heads, dress up to look just like the stock HiPos, and a 2.5" exaust.
I have thought of reworking my Hipo heads but by the time they are machined for larger valves and ported a little I would have as much money in them as a new set of alum. GT40s. With the Gt40s I would also have modern design runners witch flow better than the originals. Since alum. heads dissappate heat better I can run a smaller pulley on the Paxton and get more boost. Thats my plans for the future.

Friend of mine with a 66 coupe 6 cyl. last winter, pulled the engine, tranny, the whole front end etc. Started with a 85-302 bored 30 thousand over , a little diff. cam. G.T. 40 heads. Did the shelby drop, + lowered 1 inch in the rear, disks up front, sway bar as big as my fist, 5 speed tranny, a 429 boss hood scoop, heavier front springs, etc. etc. HE SAYS IT'S UNBELIEVEABLE, goes like a raped ape, corners like a go kart . Now , his son has a 2005 Porsche, & his father took him for a ride in the stang. The son could not get over how the stang gets up & goes, the handling, the over all performance of the car. The father is retired, 69 years old & did all the work himself. He was in the T.V. field when he was working. Believe me , I envy his skills.---S.
