    Re: wheels

This will start a riot, but, I've always felt that the ones painted black have been refinished, or, they came from Sears (or other suppliers) who also sold Kelsey Hayes wheels. I remember the ones Sears sold being black. I don't know where this all came from but the early photos all show the charcoal color.
The original ones on my 67 Gt 350 (#0036) are the medium charcoal color.

I believe that they were Black 39 years ago. Charcoal is what the original finish has deteriorated into. all the vintage pics I see show Black Mag stars. but, that is how I see it!

    It states "as built".
Well then, here are 2 examples:
I know who owns the 67 Gt 350 #0001, it is a SAAC Premiere division car. Meaning it gets all the points to get there. The wheels in the center are blacked out. I have no knowledge if this car has restored wheels.
My 67 GT 350, #0036, as stated, the wheels are natural, never been painted. The wheels are not restored. At SAAC 29, I got a Div II Concours Gold award. No points off for the wheels.
The rules kind of imply this could be either way with the wheels, no?

Ok. I look up on the wall where I have enlarged color cover photos of the March 1967 Sports Car Graphic magazine. The red cars (early GT 500) wheels are in the shadow, and look dark. Too hard to tell.
The White car (early GT 350) the wheels are in the sun. They look natural to me.

I was the original owner of 1967 Shelby GT350, #1111. It came equipped
with the Mag Star wheels. The spokes were shaded with a medium charcoal
color. The raised portions of the spokes were natural finish aluminum. You guys that have them on your Shelbys; You are re- torqueing the lugnuts
every week aren't you? You should.
